Since time immemorial a fascinating incident happens all over the world. A crystal shard, sometimes taller than a house, other times smaller than a potted plant randomly appears in a location, creating a copy of the place that overlaps with the real thing, almost like a miniature astral plane in which the people trapped inside must solve an obstacle before being able to return to the real world.
Many of the Hidden World Organizations track and study the Shard Movements, trying to find a pattern. The efforts to stop it aren’t as dedicated since the Shard itself avoids capturing mundane humans, only bringing inside the plane any Hidden World Denizen. In some ways the Shard works as a balancing tool, as more than once it swallowed dozens of dangerous individuals and they never left, surely dead after failing to fulfill the Shard challenge.
Let’s talk a bit more about the Shard itself. As stated earlier it can change sizes, creates a pocket dimension and transports individuals that are nearby the Shard location into said dimension. The Shard creates a challenge for them to defeat, maybe is fighting the individuals who died inside it before, maybe fighting enemies created by the shard itself or even a game of riddles or a card game, each time the Shard manifests a new challenge must be beaten before leaving.
Those who die inside the Shard field become servants of it, serving as the Shard heralds, referees or pawns in the challenges, unable to leave the Shard’s Dimension, trapped forever in an undying state of servitude. Some of them keep their minds others are turn into mindless drones, the ones who keep their intelligence reached some sort of agreement with the Shard, to put it in some way and might be exchanging their willing servitude for eventual release.
There are seemingly no limits to what the Shard can accomplish inside the Dimension, yet, it follows the rules it sets, the Shard never cheats, if the rules state something at the start of the challenge then it will happen like the rules say, it will never veer off and it will never break them. And it will punish those who try to break them. The Shard is invariably fair and is neutral to the summoned conflicts, unless their fights are against the rules.
Each Challenge posses up to 5 rules and an objective the Summoned must fulfill to complete it. As mentioned previously the Challenge will vary each time the Shard appears, never repeating the same Challenge twice. There might be similar challenges, but never exactly the same.
RULES FOR PLAYERS
