Appearance:
Marceline is not a conventionally attractive woman. Her single eye is bulging and uncanny, her mouth overly wide. She has a tiny button nose that looks even more outsized among her other features, rounding off an overly circular face. She cuts her blonde hair short, usually kept with a few short spikes in back and an “antennae” above her forehead.
Marceline is short and lacking in figure, passing as any any age from 20 to 25. Her body is covered in more visible stitches than the other dolls. Her clothing provides an odd contrast. She adores pastel pinks and purples and frilly dresses. Her eyepatches vary from white roses to velvet hearts. The only part of her outfit not picked personally by her are the white gloves that cover her arms up to nearly her shoulders. These are permanently sewn into her flesh. Well-hidden by her prefered clothes are the needle marks in her thighs and the butterfly tattoo on her lower back.
History:
Marceline was created by the psychotic seamstress Marika Arachne from a variety of parts, including parts of the child serial killer known as Claw, who had nearly killed Marika herself. She set the tone for the next few years on the first day of her life when she put out one of her own eyes, causing her agony by being too large for her skull. Instead of fixing the issue, Marika just ordered her not to destroy the other eyeball and sent her on her way. Her time in the kaspa was spent scrounging for drugs and alcohol to dull her constant pain, alienating Cosmina and Yuu, the only people sympathetic to her plight.
She would sell her body and belongings and even Cosmina’s belongings to keep herself high, only making things worse when she crashed. She lived in this self-destructive cycle until a few chance meetings brought salvation to her door. Her chance meeting with Johnathan Chandler and Haruko Miyata lead to Chandler being kidnapped by Marika with the intent of harvesting parts. Her other chance meeting was with Halwende Chase, intended to be one of her classic one-night stands until he showed up with ten intent of freeing her, not much interested in the rescue of Johnathan Chandler.
With this team, Marceline and Cosmina were freed. This did not fix her situation. Barely able to make enough money to feed herself and her sister, let alone the habits she had difficulty quitting, and certainly not equipped to raise a child, Marceline asked Haruko to take Cosmina in and offered to become a mistress to Chase, despite their bitter falling-out. Instead, he got her a job with his boss as a bodyguard and field agent, taking advantage of her impressive powers and natural fighting spirit.
Personality:
Marceline is hardened and bitter, inside and out. She is capable of a thin veneer of diplomacy, but prefers to snark and insult her way through life, offering only grudging respect to all but people she sees as legitimate authority. With her closest friends, these insults are a form of affection, not meant to be harmful, and she expects them in turn. Overly friendly behavior, in fact, creeps her out, both in that she has had so little kindness in her life that she has difficulty handling it and in that she doesn’t think she deserves it. The only thing that makes her more uncomfortable is fire. She has a mortal terror of flames, brought on by being paralyzed by a flaming whip when Ashlea Primrose escaped capture.
Relationships:
Halwende Chase- Chase is Marcy’s brief lover and current coworker. He found himself falling for her after they slept together at a party Haruko threw, but despite her initial attraction, his crass remarks angered her. The two now have a complex relationship, not sure if they’re even friends.
Marvel Smith- A billionaire and brilliant inventor, Smith hired Marceline as a field agent and bodyguard on Chase’s recommendation. Smith is one of the few figures Marceline respects, but she still has lingering doubts about why she was hired.
Haruko Miyata- A Californian seamstress who ran into Marceline and Cosmina when they were still under Marika’s control. She became another of Marceline’s few respected individuals by replacing her ruined clothes with new ones and helping to heal wounds she sustained fighting Ashlea Primrose. She and Marvel are the only people Marceline is consistently polite with.
Cosmina Miyata- Marceline’s younger sister and fellow doll. While the two now live on opposite sides of the USA, Cosmina still seeks opportunities to spend time with her big sister. Marceline is off-put by this love, as she frequently took advantage of Cosmina’s trust to steal the favored doll’s belongings and sell them.
Marika Arachne- This psychotic seamstress has earned her place of hatred in Marceline’s heart. Her abuse was constant, her imagination put to the task of concocting new punishments for Marcy’s daily failures.
Yuu Arachne- Marceline’s thoughts on Yuu are more complex. Yuu spoke for her early on, didn’t tell Marika when she found drugs or when Marceline came home in ripped clothes. But goodwill faded between them when Marceline couldn’t stop using to keep the pain away and began to hurt others in the kaspa to feed her habits. Now that she hasn’t seen Yuu in years, she doesn’t know where the balance lies.
Powers:
Doll physiology- Just being a doll grants Marceline some advantages. She doesn’t require oxygen and cannot bleed out. The only way to kill her is to damage her string beyond repair, whether by fire, cutting, or other means.
Pain-fueled- Marceline grows stronger the more pain she is in. Even in base, she is a good deal stronger than an average human, and every nick and cut and broken bone makes her stronger. However, this does not protect her from the downsides of pain. Her body does not mend any quicker than a human’s, and she feels every bit the pain she uses to empower herself. With too much, she can pass out like any human.
Torture machine- Marceline can amplify and multiply the pain of those she touches. This painful touch can pass through clothing, although thick armor can stop it and she does require physical contact. This attack also requires that the opponent already have at least minor pain to exploit. If they lack any pain, she can do nothing.
Ki- Through training at Inazuma, Marceline developed her ki. She uses this ki to make objects she picks up into effective improvised weapons.
Gear:
Battle Suit- A suit made by Haruko, more suitable for combat than the dresses she prefers. All vibrant pinks and pastel violets and decked out with heart-shaped buttons, the battle suit is still fitting of its name. It is made out of absurdly tough materials, defending Marceline from harm. It is also full of pockets.
Torture devices- Marceline carries a variety of hairpins, clothespins, hot peppers, and other painful but physically harmless devices. When she needs a pain boost that won’t harm her body, they can come in handy.
Caltrops- Marceline enjoys scattering these spiky traps where opponents are most likely to tread.
