Scarlet crept along the path the sound was coming from until her and Lucy came upon the strange figure covered in quilted fabric. His bare skull was showing up top, making Scarlet grin with excitement. "Now this looks like a ghost!" She quietly exclaimed, pumping her fist. She then looked down at the tiny pink chainsaw keychain on her bag and pulled it out, showing it to Lucy.
"Soooo...I could probably chop him in half, but the teacher will definitely hear it. We could try to talk to him...but I'm not sure he's going to keep quiet...got any like, banishing stones on ya?" Scarlet asked, looking back to see Aiden clicking away at the screen. Why was there a ghost here too?!

“If it was that easy to banish them, we wouldn’t be relying on that chainsaw.” Lucy mumbled. “I think we’re gonna have to talk to him. Hello sir! Please, be quiet, or the… guardian of the library will expel us. Could you explain what you are doing?” She caught the ghost’s attention and he wheeled to face them, eyeballs jiggling in their sockets. “What? Guardian?” The ghost was clearly suspicious, but he kept his voice low. “My grandfather spoke of the great gilded books of the monks, but all of these are worthless. Where is the treasure!? Give me your treasure!” His jaw clacked out of time with his voice like he was a poorly-handled puppet.

"Great gilded books...?" Scarlet mumbled in disbelief. How on Earth were they going to find something to fit that description? Sighing, she joined Lucy.
"Why would he want gilded books specifically..." Scarlet pondered. Did he just want treasure or something? Letting out a sigh, Scarlet brought her hand to her belt and pulled out a tiny pink keychain attached to her pants by a chord, shaped like a chainsaw with tiny glittering gemstones along the blade.
"Not really a book, but if you want treasure, I got stuff on here. If you agree to go back to the afterlife, you can have them." Her eyes then looked out. "But uh, we need to get out of the library first. You see, there's a barrier that keeps it small in here. The gems are much larger out in the hall. Sound good, scary guy?" Scarlet asked, looking at him with the keychain held out.

“Bigger!? I could already live like a jarl on this!” The viking ghost cackled. “Aiden, make the document. I’ll make sure Scarlet is fine with this guy.” Lucy said. With Augustus scouting again, they were able to escape the library without drawing any inordinate attention. The ghost greedily grasped for the chainsaw. “Give it to me! Give it to meeeeee!” Before she could even grow it, he grabbed it from her hands. “I found it! Treasure! Grandfather… be proud…” His voice quieted and he began to fade pale, every feature going the same shade of white. In his place stood a snow sculpture, crumbling as soon as it was formed under the weight of its treasure. Lucy knelt and picked up the chainsaw. “You can’t take it with you.” She said, handing it to Scarlet.

"...huh." Scarlet watched in surprise as the ghost turned to a statue, then crumbled into nothingness. Scarlet took her keychain back and clipped it back onto her pants.
"Guess that's one loser down. Is Aiden done y..." On cue, Aiden jogged up to the two girls, confidently holding up a piece of paper that depicted a cheering mob of some kind, and the caption above reading 'Protestants Finally Driven Out Of New World!'. Text from an article Aiden obviously copy and pasted into the margins filled the sides, while he typed up some nonsense to put under the headline.
Aiden beamed as Scarlet read the paper. "Best I could do without like, stealing some old paper and trying to make an actual newspaper. He's a ghost, he won't notice a difference." He tried to reassure. Scarlet shrugged her shoulders. "Cool. Lucy and I already got rid of a ghost, so we're doing something." She muttered.
While the trio walked back, Aiden glanced at the two. "Sooo...what's the plan if he doesn't buy it?" He asked. Scarlet tapped her keychain. "Well, I chainsaw him up and we run the hell away. Do cardio at all, necro lady?" Scarlet glanced at Lucy.

“Good work, this is great for short notice.” Lucy smiled with amusement as she looked over the page. “I doubt he can tell the difference. Fakery took more effort back in his day.” Lucy led the way until Scarlet addressed her. “Hey, are you saying I’m fat?” She blushed, crossing her arms over her stomach. “You are.” Augustus said. “Fat lass, lay off the chips.” “You stay out of this! Every woman you ever laid eyes on was a starving hooker!” She yelled into empty space. “Whatever…”

Lucy's comments about her weight made Scarlet sigh, turning to the necromancer and placing her hands on her shoulders.
"That's not what I meant, and you freaking know it. Look girl, I don't give a shit about your weight. You're wearing face paint and a cloak that makes you look like you belong in Temple of Doom, and that's fucking cool. You want to talk insecurities? Here, have mine."
Scarlet reached up to the back of her head and messed with the underside, appearing to undo some straps. She then pulls her entire hair off, revealing a completely bald head.
"Yeah, had cancer years ago. But guess what? I'm not letting this bullshit stop me from what I want to do." Scarlet placed the wig back on, and tightened the clips once more. Aiden watched with shock.
"Wait, whoa. You had cancer?!" He asked, shocked. Scarlet squinted at him. "Don't give me pity, I fucking hate that. I got enough sympathy from people in the hospital. Anyway," Scarlet looked Lucy in the eyes.
"You pretty and have style, who gives a crap what you weigh? If anyone complains, summon a corpse or whatever and see if a rotting skeleton fits their beauty standards better while it's chasing them." Scarlet grew a grin. Aiden nodded his head. "Er, yeah. She said it way better than I could." He comments. How would Alexis handle this situation?

Lucy gaped in stunned silence, shocked that Scarlet would reveal something so intimate to her. It was too much for her to immediately respond. Her insecurities really seemed like nothing compared to that, but Scarlet was so open about it. “I… wow, thanks. Genuinely. You kinda rock the bald look, by the way.” Lucy’s smile was weak, but it was there. “And sorry for snapping. I get a lot of shit from some people… and I haven’t necessarily been nice to you guys, so I don’t really deserve you being nice in turn.”

Scarlet rolled her eyes when Lucy said she rocked the bald look. "It's fine, I just can't stand that bullshit. 'You're too fat! You're too crude! You're such a boy!'" Her eyes narrowed. "Who gives a shit? Just be who you want, and if they can't stand that, fuck 'em." Scarlet spat.
She let out a sigh and put her hands on her hips. "And don't worry, I'm hardly a bundle of flowers myself. I call Aiden here a loser all the time." Scarlet glanced back at Aiden, Aiden smirking back. "And I call you a poser, so I think that makes us even." He responded.
Scarlet raised her eyebrows. "You're god damn right it does." She looked over at Lucy and nodded. "So yeah, don't worry about it. Ready to fuck up the rest of these ghosts?" Scarlet grinned, holding up her chainsaw keychain in anticipation.

“You know, I’m in theater. If you want to try out wigs one of these days, I could find a much cooler one than that.” Lucy flicked a strand of her own hair out of her eyes, extremely conscious now of its presence. “Now let’s convince that old coot to go to hell.” Lucy led the way back out to the cemetery, Augustus scouting once more. They emerged back into bitter cold, colder by far than when they left. It was the chill of the grave, the dark presence of spirits. “You talk to him. I don’t think he wants women to be too mouthy.” Lucy nudged Aiden with her elbow.

Aiden nodded, flicking out the piece of paper and stepped forward. "Right, I'll show this to him and make the old bastard leave!" He marched forward, the ghost seeing him once again.
"Ah, boy. You finally return. I was just about to get bored." He said with annoyance clear in his voice. Aiden coughed. "Well, it's hard to move around here at night. Here you are, the headline you were looking for." He walked forward and handed the ghost a piece of paper.
The spirit studied the piece carefully. A smile crept across his face. "Wonderful! Those dirty Catholics were driven out like the dogs they are! Good work, boy." The ghost patted Aiden's shoulder heartily, his entire body shaking with the force.
"Guess my work here is done. Make sure to get those girls you were with under control, that makeup gives me witch vibes. Goodbye, world!" Much like the previous ghost, Tucker turned into a statue that crumbled into nothingness. Aiden sighed and waved the other two over.
"Uuuugh, what a pig. Ok, that's another down. Nice work, team!" Aiden held out his hand for a high five, and Scarlet slapped it. Regardless if Lucy accepted or not, Aiden stepped back.
"So, we looked at the library and outside courtyard. Maybe we should check out some of the science buildings? If these guys are all important, people like Weiss would probably want to find a lab." Aiden suggested.

Lucy smiled and gave Aiden’s hand a halfhearted slap. “The labs? That makes sense. If Weiss herself slipped through, I assume that is where she headed. Even if not, she was the target, so similar people may have been drawn to my portal.” Lucy would rather not admit that it seemed that her spell hadn’t worked at all as intended. “Well, they’re close anyway, so let’s take a look.” Lucy led the way, opening the closest door after Augustus undid the lock from the other side. She glanced both ways before waving her companions in. “Hmmm… there’s a big taxidermy hall in here. Maybe the dead seek out the dead.” She pointed the way and they began navigating their way through the halls of the science building, faints whiffs of formaldehyde and dust bringing the sense of death closer with each step.

"Dead seek out the dead, huh...?" Aiden repeated, squinting at the taxidermy display before him. Scarlet casually walked behind him, twirling her bedazzled chainsaw keychain. "Maybe we should check the audito-WAH!" Scarlet let out a yelp when a large crow swooped down and latched onto the shiny keychain, beginning to fly up toward the 3rd floor of the atrium.
Aiden's eyes widened as he drew his sword to strike the bird...but then remembered that it would drop Scarlet too from that height. He heard several colorful insults leveled at the bird, but they disappeared onto the 3rd story walkway. Aiden turned to Lucy and pointed toward the stairs.
"Come on, we got to help her!" Aiden practically shouted, no longer caring about being stealthy as he sprinted at the stairs, clearing 3 steps in the first leap, and taking them 2 at a time afterwards. He couldn't let a friend get hurt up there!

“Crap! Scarlet!” Lucy lunged to grab her new friend, but Scarlet’s feet were out of reach in an instant. “Take the stairs, I’ll try to provide cover if we need it!” Lucy took off, flying directly upwards instead of taking the stairs. She wasn’t a fast flier. It was a simple levitation spell, barely faster than she could run, which wasn’t particularly fast at all. But it was still quicker than the stairs, and soon she was approaching the third floor. A ball of fire appeared in each hand, providing light and a weapon if she needed it. She prepared to toss if attacked, so observe if not.

When Lucy reached the third floor, she saw the crow flying down the hall, a flailing Scarlet in tow. The crow turned its head slightly to see Lucy following it, and decided to fight back. Little orbs of darkness appeared behind Scarlet and shot forward toward Lucy, beginning to bounce off whatever surface it hit.
Aiden finally reached the top of the stairs, panting at the effort required. "Hah...did you stop...the..." He couldn't finish before a ball of darkness came at him. He quickly put up his sword to deflect it...but the angle was unfortunately wrong, sending the darkness orb upward and smacking Aiden in the forehead.
"Oh come ooooooon!" He complained. Scarlet flailed as the bird kept flying. "Oh come on, roast this thing or something!" She called out, hating how she was effectively just a human without her keychain.

“It’s going down the hallway! I’m after it!” Lucy called when she crested the third floor. Her momentum went from forwards to upwards and the crow finally took notice of her pursuit. Black balls of shadow matter ping-ponged about in the hallway, and Lucy slowed. She wasn’t sure just what this attack was, so she couldn’t go in willy-nilly. She threw a fireball to the ground and raised up a wall of flames, hopefully preventing the balls from passing through. It took a lot of mana to keep this up and she couldn’t follow while doing it, but she wasn’t risking a hit from that stuff.

The orbs of darkness were pushed up by the wall of flames, disappearing harmlessly against the ceiling. However, when her flames died down, the crow was now nowhere to be found. However, the duo did hear footsteps approaching from the other hallway directly to their right. Aiden thought about running...but the short stature of the person probably meant it wasn't a teacher. Were the guard still out at this hour?
His answer came when a short dog-eared girl skidded to a stop within talking distance. She had short green hair, with a black tank top and a pair of dark green shorts. Her build was athletic, clearly doing some sort of sport regularly. She put her hands on her hips as she looked at the two.
"Ok, what's going on here? I go out to get my textbooks from a classroom, and see people casting fire spells in the hallway? Are you both nuts?!" She asked incredulously. Aiden racked his brain to look for a response.
"Trust me, we have a good reason! Some bird spirit just carried off our friend!" Aiden declared, taking a short glance at Lucy and deciding it wasn't worth explaining the spirit stuff yet.
The girl looked down the hallway, taking a sniff with her nose. "Hmmm...there does appear to be a person's scent getting farther away...and I can hear lots of colorful language." She remarked. "You guys like, want some help? I'm a pretty good tracker, if you haven't noticed." She explained, flipping one of her ears like it was a long lock of hair.
Aiden wanted to say no. This girl looked like a total normie, what would she help with. But for some reason...a part of him shoved that feeling aside. "I vote she helps!" Aiden declared, looking at Lucy.
The girl nodded, and turned her attention to Lucy. The strange outfit and makeup made her cock her head, making one of her ears droop. "You guys like, aren't doing black magic, right? That's kind of a spooky outfit at this time of night."

“Ah. Oops.” Lucy said when the flames cleared and she realized the crow had escaped under the cover she created. She was scratching her head, trying to figure out which way to go, when Haley appeared. She bristled immediately at Haely’s dismissal of her behavior as nuts, not to mention her questionable attitude towards fields of magic. “Hey, there’s nothing wrong with black magic! It’s a legitimate field of study! What’s so wholesome about throwing a lightning bolt through somebody’s brain compared to chatting with daemons about the nature of reality? Eh? Eh?” Lucy pointed accusationally towards Haley. “But… we need to save Scarlet. Come along if you want!” She wasn’t going to reject help just cause they were rude.

Haley stood by, stunned at being called out like this. Her first instinct was to growl, but years of tamping down these animalistic urges made her just groan in response. "Oh, so you were doing black magic. Guess we know how the spirts came to be now." She rolled her eyes. "Well, guess I'm not wanted here..." She said, turning and taking a step to walk away.
Aiden ran up and stopped in front of her. "No, please! We uh, need your help!" He tried to appeal. A slight shot of embarrassment shot through him. This wasn't cool at all. Haley stared for a few seconds, then shrugged her shoulders.
"Well, at least one of you knows how to ask nicely. Call me Haley, you might have seen me on the cheer team~" She chirped, making a pose with her arms.
Aiden stared in shock. This was terrible, they were getting help from a cheerleader?! This was the opposite of cool! But he couldn't be rude and back down now...
"Erm, nice to meet you! I'm Aiden, that's Lucy." He motioned to the dark mage. Haley made a peace sign with her hands. "Nice to meet'cha! Come on, I think I smell something this way!"
She led the two down the hallway, making various turns with the scent trail. She slowed down after a minute and looked over at a statue, seeing a strange shard of cloth on its spear tip. Haley took it off and examined it.
"Well, it matches the scent, so I guess this is your friend's. Guess if it drug her off, part of her pant leg might have gotten caught on the point. Maybe it's trying to shake her off?" Haley mused. Tossing the small shard at Aiden, she took off again.

“I didn’t mean to chase you away. I was just… whatever. Thanks Aiden.” Lucy blushed. She had nearly fucked it up for no reason other than pride. Then again, that peace sign… “Ugh…” She groaned and floated after. She intercepted the scrap of cloth tossed to Aiden and quickly studied it. “No blood. That seems like a good sign, right?” Trying to lighten the mood made her think of Scarlet getting her pants stuck here and she giggled. It made her wonder something. “So… what is your deal with Scarlet, eh? You a couple?” She nudged Aiden’s side, hovering back up out of range of retaliation.
