As Ann cried Percival awkwardly patted her head. He didn’t know how to react, as he expected his words to have some effect, but not to this level. It was clear she was barely holding herself together after getting her powers. This reminded him of the first time he was forced to drink from the Grial, the dread and horror he felt as his battered body rearranged itself gruesomely, his page couldn’t bear to watch him and ran off, calling him a demon. -Start by taking care of yourself.- He warmly remarked after she apologized for drenching his coat with tears. He returned and picked up his blade, that he left on the ground after casting the spell. The weapon was still emitting a low radiance, akin to one of the emergency breakable glow sticks. Percival gazed into the dark corridor with a worried expression, until he remembered Gianni’s unique skills. -Gianni, you keep your senses in alert for anything in front of us and try to throw some threads behind us if the monsters manage to break the wall, so we have extra time.-
He instructed while squeezing by and looking forward, he forced his eyes, trying to notice any important details, but the hallway seemed to extend for a very long way, it was like looking at a subway tunnel from the platform, a long tunnel with periodic intervals of light. But something else was there, something eerie. He could feel the hair on the back of his neck standing up, there was a sinister presence at the end of the tunnel, almost like a wave of sludge slowly dripping from that direction, almost as if gravity was altered and liquid was falling sideways. He thought it was just a feeling, until he felt a drop of a heavy tar-like substance hitting his jacket. Then another. Black rain, falling sideways through the tunnel, coming from the far end. Thick droplets, sticky and oily. Percival covered his face and one of his droplets hit his exposed skin. A burning sensation travelled across his body, a jolt of pain that made his whole arm tingle. -BACK TO THE ROOM! GO! GO!- He shouted, as he attempted to use his body to block the most of the substance, his coat was enchanted and might take more punishment. Still, some of them hit on his hair or in his neck, sending more currents of pain towards his brain. It felt acidic in nature, a pain he knew after spending a season tortured by the Spanish Inquisition for helping a Muslim Family to escape the Iberian Peninsula

“Threads behind us will also be a hindrance when we’re coming back.” Gianni warned. “If we’re trying to get out in a hurry, it would take a while for me to untangle them.” He felt something move overhead and tilted his chin up to see something splattering on Percival. The knight’s yell came a second later and Gianni bolted before the sentence even finished. He grabbed the corner and with his unbreakable grip, quickly swinging himself around and out of the way. He could see more of the oil falling from the hallway with blatant disregard for the laws of physics. His wide eyes looked around for solutions, but nothing obvious came to mind.
He would have to make one. Gianni pulled off his glasses and stuffed them away in his backpack, which he quickly shuffled off to leave by the wall. Quickly his shirt followed, draped over the backpack, and he readied himself. An entire crop of hairs began growing out. He grabbed swathes of threads and began wrapping himself up, starting by covering up his deeply blushing face, then his thin arms and chest. After he kicked off his shoes and socks, he wrapped everything up to just below his knees.
He was half-mummy by the time he was done, not even his eyes showing through. “Percival! Ann! I need somebody to direct me! I can’t see in this stuff and I’ll get stuck if I touch a wall!” He moved hunched over so that only the parts of his body covered by string were exposed to the oil, arms out in a grasping zombie motion in an instinctive bid not to crash into a wall.

Percival signaled to go back in the room, though Ann was somewhat uncertain as to why he said that.
"Huh? why? what is going on?"
the drops fell over Ann's body, but they were not making contact, instead, a slight blue aura over her skin was showing everytime a drop landed over her, Ann noticed her VM HUD was going crazy as her Hp was going down every time a drop connected, and while it did not hurt, her clothes began ripping apart. by the time she realized it, her HP was dropping fast, 180/200, 175/200... *what is that rain?! are these shields? wait...if 100hp is represented in shields...then my other 100hp comes from my actual body?! Fuuuck! we must get out before it gets ugly! *
Ann began running along with Percival, her speed was really good, but Gianni had other plans and he needed help with it
"Gianni, grab onto me! I'll be fine as long as we hurry on this one"
She extended her hand over to the archaeologist as both went into the black rain, looking for a way to make it stop, it was an all or nothing gamble.
"Don't let go no matter what ok?! Jeez, what the hell is wrong with this place?!!"

Percival was utterly and completely puzzled about the situation, he could feel the burns on his skin, nothing too serious, but stung like crazy. He pulled some bandages he had inside his jacket and quickly covered the affected areas, adding a bit of padding on his face as well, it might take one or two droplets before melting. -I hope your webbing can take the heat, or we’re going to turn into puddles.- He commented, walking behind Gianni and Ann, trying to crouch and tighten up his body to make his frame smaller, still some of the drops that didn’t reach Gianni’s threads, but most of those just hit his enchanted jacket, so he was more or less okay. He was running a bit low on magical energy at the moment and he didn’t want to take another swig of the Grail unless it was extremely urgent.
The group would keep advancing, the droplets became less of a rain and more of a drizzle, but something was wrong, in theory moving on a decline they should be having less trouble to advance, but Percival felt, and surely the others would, that it was getting harder and harder to advance, almost as if they were climbing up, rather than walking down. They would reach a point in which the ground would feel at 45 degrees, with the rain still falling from above and the dim lights still hanging in periodic intervals. -Something weird is happening here.- Commented the Old Knight, grabbing one of the light sources from the bottom, just to stop himself from sliding back. -If this keeps going like this we’ll have to start climbing the floor rather than walking it.- Gianni’s enhanced sense of touch and vibrational sense would caught up the strange situation a bit earlier than the others, realizing that somehow… gravity was altered.

"It's better than bare skin." Gianni's voice was muffled by the thick wrapping of threads. "Wait, Ann-" He was too late to warn her before she grabbed his hand. Ann would find herself stuck tight for now. Gianni mumbled various solutions to himself, but they would have to wait. Quickly he positioned himself in front where his threads would take the brunt of the rain, letting her steer from behind. He could feel the acid splashing against his armor, spots of light appearing where that over his face was thinned by sizzling droplets. It was several lurching steps before he felt it sting him. A droplet had lucked into an area already damaged by another on his shin.
He gasped and did a short hop in surprise, but quickly planted his feet again, this time clinging tight with a low hum. Somebody stronger than everybody in the group combined would have difficulty moving him if he didn't want to, let alone gravity. He moved on again until the ground seemed to tilt to an impossible degree. "I need a way to let go of Ann if it gets any steeper." He waved his stuck arm. "I can walk just fine, but if it gets any steeper, I don't think you two can follow me." Gianni spoke faster than usual, feeling another drop every few seconds to wear away at his defenses.

*oh crap* Ann thought to herself as she noticed just how sticky the threads were
"You are right, we might not be able to keep this up for much longer, I'll try to free myself because I don't think you are gonna be able to pull me all the way up there, let's keep moving as we do it!"
Ann got her Wakizashi equipped on her other hand, she got the blade stained with the black rain, hoping the liquid would prevent the blade from getting stuck
"Ok, here goes nothing!"
Ann began quickly slashing at the threads stuck to her hand, the steep was getting far more difficult to climb at this point.
"I'm almost out, all it needs now is a strong pull, Gianni, hang in tight! I'll jump away from you to thin it out even further!"
Ann jumped with all her strength away from Gianni, stretching the thread even further, but that wouldn't be enough, she instinctively kicked mid-air as the thread began to pull her in again...and to her surprise, it worked.
the air felt just as solid as the floor, this wasn't because of the weird properties of the room, but because of a skill of hers.
*what the hell??!!*
Ann sliced at the stretched out thread with all her strength, she finally broke free as she fell a couple of meters behind Percival, she rolled down the steep incline but finally managed to get some proper footing.
"It's all up to you Gianni!" Ann said as her armor was about to deplete, compared to up there, she would last a lot longer as the rain wasnt that strong.

The black rain stopped, the drizzle that accompanied them for the last 30 mts had died out completely, but the advance was almost impossible for Percival and surely for Ann, as even when the floor was flat they would feel it as if they were climbing at 50 degrees. -This is insane…- He muttered, shuffling through his stuff until he found the flare gun he took from the guide’s buggy. He loaded it, while leaning hard against the wall trying to keep his balance. He aimed the signal gun forward -I’m going to check something out.- He commented about his actions before shooting. The flare was launched directly towards the dimly lit hallway in front of them, leaving a trail of red smoke behind the gleaming beacon leading the projectile. Soon what Percival was wondering was clear as mid-air the flare spun as if it had reached it maximum altitude and then started falling sideways, just as the rain, parallel to the floor.
-I think something is meddling with gravity.- He looked around, but the hallway looked the same, nothing apart from the blue lights on the fall got his attention. -I know you can climb.- He talked to the mummified Gianni. -But we’re going to need something to help or attempts…- The Old Knight then turned to Ann. -Do your fancy powers allow you to get rope or climbing gear?- He asked looking towards the hallway in front of them with pensive eyes. -Because I think we might need them.- He added as he tried to gauge the distance they could see in front of them.

Gianni realized the true nature of the trap when he stopped feeling drops of acid pelt his armor of strings. There wasn't an off-switch he could hit to make the journey safe for them, they needed to climb behind him. "I'd need a lot of fabric to make a rope. I can't make my threads not sticky, but I can tie stuff together. I don't think we have enough to put together for that though, and I didn't bring any rope. I can climb on my own and my thread doesn't stick to me so I... didn't think about anybody else. I'm sorry." Gianni was glad the threads hid how much he was blushing. He hadn't prepared properly and now it was everybody else's problem.
What was now his problem was that he couldn't go back. He had left his shirt, shoes and backpack down at the end of the slope. He wasn't getting them back without going back down and braving the acid again. Even with the fabric in his pack, he doubted he could make a rope, but there was no way it was happening without it. It was all down to Ann's abilities now. Hopefully she was capable of it or he would have to actually make the trip.

"the ballistic set like the one I'm wearing has a paracord belt, see?" she said as she undid the thing to show it to Percival.
"we can actually use it as a rope, it might look thin, but military grade 550 paracords like this one would have no problem holding the weight of the two of us at the same time. just to be on the safe side i'll get some more."
Ann created yet another set of clothing, she grabbed the belt and made everything else disappear, she began untangling the cord that made up the belt, two cords of around 17 meters came out of it. she did this process twice.
"there we go, we have 4 ropes now, as long as they are secured they will stand our weight with no problems"
"Gianni, think you can do something with this?"
Ann threw the cords up at Gianni, he could probably fuse them together to make an even longer rope, or maybe a thicker one, she left that choice up to him.
"well, all that is left now is wait, though this position is starting to get tiring"

-Agreed.- Percival could feel his old bones creaking and his muscles about to scream in agony. -While you young fellows decide the course of action I’ll trace back out steps to see if the Jiangshi managed to pierce through the wall.- The Old Knight actually wanted to go to a place with less of a slope, as his knees weren’t taking the situation with ease. He started walking back the way they came, adding a bit of information while leaving. -I promise not to engage the enemy if I see it.- He didn’t want to make them worried. -I’ll hit my sword against the wall twice if they’re coming behind me, the echo will reach you.- And with that he started the walk back, thankful for easing the strain of his joints.
Percival didn’t take long to walk close enough to see the room, still lit by his spell, he even jogged towards it, taking advantage of the favorable angle. He started moving slower the closer he got, keeping his eyes peeled for any movement, but thankfully there were no signs of the Jiangshi breaking through just yet, he could hear them hitting the wall, that even had some marks from the acid rain, but they were still quite muffled. The Old Knight scanned the room and decided to pick up Gianni’s belongings, clothings and then chain left by the Jiangshi’s weapon, the one that cut cut by the spinning room. As he left he gave another look to the area and thought about the riddle that helped them.
“Making a circle to make a straight line.” Percival pondered it as he advanced towards the others, the feeling of the floor curving under his feet.

"That's perfect! Let me clear up my hands and we're good." Gianni's bangs moved on their own like waving antennae and he brought his hands up to them. It became apparent that Gianni's three bangs weren't just spikes of hair like a regular person, but something physical and mobile. They scraped at the thread, tearing it away easily. If Ann looked close, she might see them leaking a watery purple fluid. He flexed his free fingers and shook off any stray drops of liquid, careful not to let any fall on Ann or the retreating Percival. More threads began growing from his hair as he grabbed the chords and began sticking them together in a long line.
"I suppose you're wondering what that's all about. I did say I was an alien, and that... well I suppose it's about the weirdest thing about that. And no, I couldn't have done it for you. The venom helps loosen the threads, but it would also paralyze your hand." If Gianni had a spare hand, he could remove the threads himself, as they didn't stick to him, but with two hands coated he'd just get more things stuck to each other. "Alright, that should do." Gianni finished and gave the rope and experimental tug. "I'll try to find a good spot to anchor this for you and Percival up above. Well, just Percival if you can keep flying." He looked at her like he was expecting her to take off again at a moment's notice.

"Oh, that's right! maybe I can fly after all! let me check what type of skill that was before trying anything else"
Ann scrolled through her VM, she finally opened the quirk section to see what that was all about
"hmmm...well, apparently I cannot fly, what I did back then was a double jump...oh well that's also pretty useful! I also have another skill here...dictionary huh? so that's what happened with the voices earlier, and look at this! there are tons of other skills here! I just need to level up!"
Ann closed the HUD, she then looked up at Gianni
"I am gonna need to use the rope as well, though I can probably climb much faster by double jumping, I should go first and Percival last, just so that we can go at our own pace, found a place to stick the rope to yet?"
She readied herself to climb as soon as Gianni gave her the signal.

-Great work.- Percival commented upon seeing Gianni climbing to affix the rope. -I brought your belongings Gianni.- He lifted his hand with the Arachnid Archaeologist’s backpack, with his clothing neatly folded inside. -I also brought the chain that one of the Jiangshi left in the room, I can’t quite identify what is made of, maybe you can give it a look when you’re done with the rope.- He then turned to Ann. -I think they’re mostly contained by the wall, but I don’t know how much it will hold, I know that my spell is already out so that’s not bothering them anymore, hopefully I killed one or two, but they were quite a rowdy bunch.- Percival, while waiting decided to inspect the floor, using the heavy blade of the chain as a makeshift pendulum, trying to gauge the altered gravity that was messing with his perception, he moved in stretches of five meters back and forth. Then he the thought he had been messing with as he walked towards the group popped back into his head. “...Needs to make a circle before it makes a line”
Gianni, while climbing further up would reach a point in which the gravity was perfectly horizontal, meaning that every wall around him was just that, no ceiling or floor. But if he moved a bit forward he would start feeling the shifting again, as what started being the ceiling in the hallway the walked up until now was gradually becoming the floor.

Gianni raised an eyebrow when Ann stared into space for a few seconds before he recognized the way she scrolled her eyes. She has an internal manual? I wish my powers came with a manual. I still can't really catch things with my threads properly. "Thanks, Percival! Please keep it for now, I can't touch it with threads all over me." Gianni called back as he climbed ahead, looking for any area where the slope leveled out. It only grew worse at first until he was on a completely vertical surface. He hoped it wasn't much further. He wasn't going to fall off, but standing horizontally for too long made everybody between his lumbar and his calves sore.
Luckily, he soon passed the middle point and realized what was happening. He was no longer on the wall or the floor but the ceiling. He didn’t notice the change in gravity through its effects on his body. Given he was made for it, he didn’t even suffer the rush of blood to the head a human would. His only indication was his glasses nearly falling off to the apparent ceiling. Tentatively, he looked up and released his feet. He turned in midair to land safely. A few more steps and he felt the ground was even enough for his more terrestrial companions.
A few threads anchored the rope and he walked back. “It’s like the slope turns in on itself up there. It’s not possible, but that’s what it feels like. Just be ready for the shift, it’ll probably feel weird.” Gianni remembered kids getting red in the face after hanging upside down on the monkey bars back when he went to school. Presumably adults were just as susceptible.

"Oh ok, thanks for letting me know!" Ann said as she struggled on the rope, the fact that she was wearing a skirt made the climb all the more uncomfortable, especially since Percival was below her
*God I'm so stupid, I should have chosen last on the climb! what color was my underwear again??! nevermind, I will get this done in a sec"
Ann kicked the final part of the climb with a double jump which finally evened out the terrain, the gravity was set the other way around so the whole climb just felt weird for a second or two, she was finally able to relax.
"Phew, Going back this way is probably gonna be next to impossible, and besides, the Jiangshi would surely be lying in wait, I hope we can find another exit on our way here, I'm starting to feel claustrophobic."
All that was left was to wait for Percival to finish the climb as well.

Percival started climbing, his old and calloused hands, testament of centuries wielding a sword, managed to grip the rope with ease, his palms had almost a sandpaper-like texture and roughness. He was carrying extra weight, but he didn’t seem to be really bothered by it. -I don't remember when was the last time I had to climb a rope.- He commented as he stopped for a second using one of the magical candelabre as a foothold. -Lately I’ve been avoiding old ruins like this, maybe because I see myself when I visit.- Percival chuckled, clearly joking about it. -So I’ve been doing more city-based work, bodyguard duty, escorting relics and so forth.- He added, between heavy breathing, as he climbed, reaching the perfectly vertical point. As he did a very distant VROOOOM! echoed through the hallway from the direction they came, reaching the group. -I think our dried up mates are coming.- He commented as he rushed to climb the remaining rope, gravity altering his course as he got closer to the total inversion.
He landed with a heavy thud, falling on one knee and propping up with his hand. The Old Knight looked a bit dizzy. -Just give me a minute.- He staggered, leaning against the wall to stand up. -That felt disturbingly weird…- As he stood more distant echoes, this time of the incoming Jiangshi hopping towards them. The Old Knight looked over his shoulder, peering into the darkness. For a moment he was about to consider fleeing as fast as they could, but then he remembered something. -I think I’ve an idea…- He shuffled through his pockets until he found a small pebble, nothing actually valuable, just a bit of rock he picked up because the shape was perfect to skip it, something he had been enjoying ever since his time as a fully mortal man. -The acid kept moving even reaching the room, so that means the gravity effect is larger than we expect, or at least it happens gradually if something passes fast enough.- He picked the large chain with the bladed tip in the end. -Please take a step back.-
Once they moved he started swinging the chain over his head, rodeo style, trying to keep it confined to the walls without touching them, hoping that it would get enough speed to pass through the vertical gravity point. -I learned this after spending a couple of decades a long time ago in Texas.- He explained his lasoo skills as the chain buzzed over his head. Finally, with a mighty throw, he launched the bladed tip forward. For a moment it seemed as if the initial throw wouldn’t be strong enough, as the tip was getting closer and closer to the floor, but once it reached the vertical gravity it sticked out from the floor and flew towards the hallway at ever increasing speed. -I think that might take a couple out and hopefully push them back.- Percival smiled as he turned to the others. -Well, so shall we continue onwards?- He asked, while looking towards the hallway in front of them, at the very edge of his sight he could see a doorway to the next room, but nothing else, as even with his enhancements and long life he was more or less a regular human.
If the group reached the room they would encounter an even larger domed room in complete darkness, the ground was split in large curved segments forming several concentric rings of segmented slabs of obsidian and white jade in an alternating pattern, more or less a circular chess board, with equally slanted “squares”

Gianni waited at the end of the rope to help Ann and Percival up when they reached him. He distantly heard the jiangshi breaking through and knelt to undo the threads so they couldn't use the rope even if by some miracle they were dexterous enough. A few drops of venom and he was winding up the rope to store. When Percival threw the anchor-shaped chain spear, Gianni winced at the noise and thought of the ways the gravity could have made the throw go wrong. "I doubt they can get up here anyway." He stood and handed the rope to Ann. "Can you hold onto this? We might need it again."
He didn't need more venom to unwind the bandages of thread from his own body. They didn't stick to him like they did everything else. It only took a few seconds for him to unwrap entirely and get dressed again, although his speed didn't stop him from blushing. It wasn't just that he was scrawny, with little in the way of muscle on his bony chest, his pale scar had briefly shown, a nearly white stripe from his left shoulder through his right nipple. It was once much more prominent, now faded by his shedding skin, and that in itself was something he wasn't much interested in explaining.
He adjusted his glasses and walked into the next room, sweeping his flashlight across the room. There was nothing unusual at a glance. A room without a trap or trick? He avoided moving too much anyway. There could be something about the floor. "Nobody walk around too much just yet. Evenly spaced tiles make me nervous." He gently tapped a few tiles, feeling for hollow spots or hidden triggers.

"Oh sure, I'll hold on to it," she said as Gianni quickly began to change, Ann quickly turned the other way the moment she noticed Gianni was getting undressed, missing his scar entirely, though even if she had seen it, she would not have dared to ask about it.
"you are done, right? ok, let's keep moving..."
Ann wondered why this room was made in such a strange pattern, it would seem things were getting more and more bizarre as they progressed into the tomb, who knows what else lied in wait? she stopped as soon as Gianni told her, it was obvious such a strange room would have some sort of trap or trick, as the whole design in stone should have been ridiculously hard to craft.
"I don't like this room, it makes me feel dizzy, I hope there is a way around this place"

-I don’t like traps either Ann, but at the very least we can count on those hopping suckers not reaching us thanks to the gravity trap behind us.- Percival looked over his shoulders as the echoes of the chain he threw faded, bouncing ever further thanks to the smooth white jade walls. The room in front of them was quite puzzling, but hopefully Gianni, who had plenty of experience investigating tombs might solve it. Talking about the Arachnid Archaeologist, his soft prodding of the area produced results. From the doorway he only had access to 3 tiles at arm's length. The one to his left started sinking and a loud “CLICK” echoed in the room. The decorations on the walls, that seemed like compass needles in different positions suddenly sprouted out from spring loaded compartments, spinning mid-air, connected to chains. Not all came out and as soon as they reached their opposite wall, turning the area into a mess of crossing chains, coming from many angles, they retracted back to the walls, just like the arms of the Jiangshi. -Damn.- Percival let out a long whisper of appreciation for the handiwork. He had been to his fair share of tombs across the years, but this place might take the cake for the deadliest looking traps.
The tile directly in front of him also seemed to be trapped, so the very moment felt like it was he might managed to pull out, if not another set of different spinning spikes flew all over the room hitting the walls and then swiftly returning to their positions. The last tile on his range, the one to the right of the doorway, didn’t seem to be on a pressure plate, as his touch didn’t trigger it. No click or anything of the like, and no spinning spikes coming from every conceivable angle. It seems that some of the tiles could potentially form a path and than most of the trapped tiles were quite sensitive. -I think we need to take our time here, we don’t know what the hell the rest of the tiles do.- Percival talked with muttered whispers, quite impressed of the death trap they managed to stumble upon. His fingers fidgeted with the welded borders of his canteen, fearing that he would’ve to use it again if he wanted to get out this place alive.

Gianni yelped and dove to the wall when his light tap set off the chain trap. He clung there for a solid half minute before daring to drop back down. His heart was hammering like artillery pounding away on no man's land when he reached for the second tile. With greater wariness, he felt it depress just the slightest bit and tried to pull away, but its hair-trigger was too sensitive even for his reflexes. "Everybody down!" With his belly already pressed to the floor, the spikes soared harmlessly overhead. He remained in a duck-and-cover position until the noise was long died down to reach out for the third tile. He breathed a sigh of relief when his efforts didn't result in any more disasters.
He wiggled backwards off the tiles back into the hallway and stood. He pressed himself to the wall as if the chains could shoot into the hallway at any moment. "...okay, I'm good. I'm good. We could... well, I have two ideas. I could walk on the ceiling to get to the other side and anchor the rope between the walls. Then you could crawl across on that. A little more time consuming but maybe less dangerous is I can attach a thread to something heavy and we throw it out onto each tile in turn until we know which are safe. I pull it back with my threads each time and we stay back here out of the way." He rummaged in his backpack for suitable objects, lifting a half-full water bottle in suggestion.
