History:
The Takashi family have been a line of swordsmen since the feudal period. Even in modern times, this hasn't changed and Katsuo's parents ran a swordsmanship dojo. Since the moment he was strong enough to hold a practice sword, they made Katsuo train and hone his skills. At the age of eight, his parents introduced him to another type of training that their family practiced and they started teaching him the art of chi control. When he wasn't training Katsuo liked to read novels, especially those about samurai. He admired their skills, their academics and their honor and he decided to mimic them as he grew up. And so his childhood went by, filled with training, school and reading. After finishing his education, he moved away from his parents and found a job as a bartender until, inspired by the yakuza's reputation as modern samurai, he joined the Wakahisa-gumi family and rose up the ranks when his skills and loyalty to the family were noticed. A month or so before the family was eradicated, Takashi started thinking about leaving the Yakuza as they weren't as close to the samurai in his novels as he would have liked.
Shi Kaze is an ancient blade, made by the legendary swordsmith Muramasa. Unlike most of his blades, she truly lives up to their dark reputation. Used by underground cults in the sacrifice of virgins, she is said to have absorbed their final pain, unfulfilled lust, and vengeful rage and somehow come to live as a result. While craved for its power by Hidden World swordsmen, she is also feared for her tendency to reject anyone who dares attempt to wield her, cutting them into unrecognizably small pieces. Fearing not just her but the damage the people seeking her may cause in their quest and her rampage when angered, an underground organization(pre JHWAB) took her, bound in her sheathe, and set her in a hidden location with an eternal guardian go make sure she remained undetected.
Long after the organization that contained her faded away, Katsuo was sent by the yakuza to retrieve her. He located her prison and slew the guardian, but his own sword broke in the process, and he was forced to use Kaze to escape the collapsing tunnels and the other unholy things that took advantage of the chaos to free themselves from their own vaults. Intoxicated with the loneliness of centuries, his skills as a swordsman, and gratitude at her rescue, she fell in love with him. He accepted her as his sword. Not much later, he mentioned a desire to leave the Yakuza. The next day, his entire Yakuza family was gone, dead or scattered.
Personality:
Shi Kaze is psychotically possessive and lovestruck with Katsuo. Her lust for him is only paralleled by her lust for the blood of anybody who threatens to take him away. She's equally likely to murder a woman who winked at him in a bar as an actual enemy attacking him. However, with him, she's all sweetness and warmth, the kindest, most wouldn't-hurt-a-fly girl possible.
Katsuo Takashi is an avid reader of novels and watcher of movies featuring his childhood heroes, samurai. His love of Japan's ancient warriors shaped his lifestyle greatly, from getting him into studying swordfighting to having him join (and then to leave) the Yakuza. He follows the Bushido code as best he can in the modern world
Katsuo is mostly unaffected by Kaze's charms and attempts at seducing him as he sees her as a sword rather then a woman. Despite not having such feelings for her, he follows the traditions of the samurai and takes good care of her.
Appearance:
Shi Kaze is rather decorous for a functional blade. While her blade is undecorated and smooth, her hilt is wrapped in a bone white grip, somehow pure even after several centuries of exposure to the elements. Her guard and pommel are both a vibrant red, looking like they were painted just minutes ago in blood. The hand guard is a standard rounded rectangle, decorated like an oni's face with its mouth around the blade.
The sheath is similar, red with black marks. At a distance, these look like meaningless patterns, but with close inspection are extremely distorted depictions of cruelty and violence, including the brutal sacrifices that made Shi what she is today.
Her spectral mist can form a humanoid body, her recently perfected and favorite form. This resembles a ghostly teenage girl with white skin and golden hair that is unnaturally light looking, hovering seemingly on its own. This is crowned by a circle of wilted flowers. She is "wearing" a grey dress that resembles a wedding gown, complete with grey roses on the sash round her waist. It looks as fake and transparent as she, almost seeming to have become dust that holds together only by her will. The form in general is this way, her body and dress failing and showing a skeleton underneath, usually when she is upset.
----
Katsuo is a man of average height with long brown hair which he usually keeps in a bun to stop it from going into his eyes during combat. He let stubble grow on his face after his escape from the yakuza. He usually wears a light purple kimono which hides tattoos on his arms and back, a sign of his (previous) affiliation with the yakuza. When going outside, he puts on a coat to hide Shi and a surgical mask to hide his face.
Powers:
Kaze, as a spirit, has some advantages over mortals. She moves invisibly, feeling like the wind to anybody without the senses to locate her. This also makes her basically impossible to harm, especially since her blade never dulls from its impossible level of sharpness and is seemingly unbreakable. However, to interact with the environment, she must create things from an ethereal mist that pours from her blade, usually restricted to barriers and blades, although she has also developed a physical form for herself, even if it's flawed.
Katsuo started training his body and sword skills at a very young age and by 16, he could spar with men twice his size. This wasn't purely because of physical training as he was also thought how to control chi in his body to make himself stronger, his bones harder and his brain faster. His skills improved with age and he can take down human opponents with ease.
Virtual Machine No. 7: Type Berserker
After being recruited into the Musashi clan as an associate by Akane Musashi, Katsuo worked tirelessly and lived frugally until he earned enough Credits to acquire his own virtual machine. His reasoning was that a modern samurai requires modern samurai armor and in a relatively short amount of time, he acquired his own.
Skill: Path of the samurai
Katsuo's variation of the virtual shop. He acquires points by displaying the 8 virtues of the bushido code: Justice, Courage, Mercy, Politeness, Honesty and sincerity, Honor, Loyalty, and Self-control. At the same time, acting in a manner opposite of the 8 virtues takes away from his available point pool. He uses these points to activate other virtual machine skills and utilities.
Utility: Thermal vision - 5 points
Allows Katsuo to perceive gradations in heat in the environment. This allows Katsuo to see through Shi no Kaze's fog in a fight.
Utility: Modular Pauldrons - 15 points
The pauldrons on Katsuo's armor separate from it, changing shape into one more reminiscent of samurai shoulder armor. They are attached to the armor only by a sort of mechanical arm that moves around according to Katsuo's will, allowing simultaneous protection from multiple angles.
Skill: Perfect Warrior - 20 points
A unique mix of hormones is released into Katsuo's body, enhancing all of his physical abilities, providing him with various physical resistances and a healing factor, and increasing all of his physical traits. He grows taller, buffer, his hair grows in length and turns white, and becomes more aggressive.
This ability is limited due to Katsuo's purely human physiology. He can only keep it active for 10 seconds or risk death.
Skill: Smoke and mirrors - 40 points
Shi no Kaze gains the ability to possess the armor and move around the modular pauldrons, becoming both a sword and a shield for her precious Kat.
Weaknesses:
As a sword, Shi is more support than a full fighter herself. She is better fighting as a blade in the hands of another than a warrior in her own right. When in her sheath, she cannot summon her fog or move her blade. As a spirit, her fog can be diffused by wind and her objects are somewhat weak.
While his stats do reach into superhuman territory, Katsuo is still much weaker then most supernatural individuals found around the Vice and they could kill him with their bare hands if they wanted to.
