History:
The Blade from Behind is one of trillions of the so-called Demon Gods, and of those few considered worthy of worship by the people of earth, it is among the least popular and weakest. The leaders of its cult, starting in the 80s, cared little for the being itself and its desires beyond the power it granted. They built up a cult of assassins to amass wealth and political power in the Hidden World of Canada. They kidnapped children with powers to serve them. And until 2009, this worked well for them.
Their mistake was in helping the Blade create an avatar. The leaders planned on arranging the child an unfortunate accident before they manifested and caused the end of the world (but more importantly their own wealth). However, instead, a monster came to do the deed for them, and in doing so slaughtered most of the cult. Only a few leaders and two children survived. The leaders and one of the surviving children were taken into custody by the HWIC in the aftermath. The child went on to be Marigold Stokes, a Gateway student. The leaders went to prison. But what of the one that got away?
Anemone was born to the Shizuka Kurasu clan, the same as her cousin Sarah Albane of the HWIC. Thought not to have the Royal Red Eyes, she was sold off to the cult as an infant and raised like all the other cult members. The children were housed together in tight quarters and trained into killing machines. Anemone was especially proficient, developing ki early on and never having a twitch of guilt over her kills. She was a quiet fanatic, looking forward to whatever future the cult decided for her. Then the monster came and tore it away.
The beast with no form had just finished killing the avatar of the Blade when Anemone found him. The most sacred figure in her life lay on the floor without a ribcage, a bloodstained beast trying to break into the safe room her leaders hid away in. She leaped to their defense with the surviving children at her back. Huntsman sliced them apart, and the last thing she saw before blacking out with her guts in her lap was one girl her age running the other direction.
Of course, she didn’t die. She woke up in the tent of a traveling doctor who had come to the cult’s HQ when he heard of the HWIC’s plan to raid them in the hopes of preventing casualties. He told her the HWIC were already coming to take her away when she recovered and she broke free of her bonds to flee. On her own for the next 8 years, she honed her assassin’s craft further. She has a name for herself now, an underground nightmare, and now she knows the names of her enemies. Some of them are just as underground. Some of them are running the most powerful organization in the world. Neither is a problem for her.
Personality:
Deep down, Anemone has emotions like anybody else. Rage, fear, pain. However, those observing wouldn’t know. Anemone is an actor, a faker. She plays an ordinary schoolgirl when it suits her, and an emotionless robot when on her own. Rarely, the mask slips, showing a vulnerability she wishes didn't exist. She has leftover behaviors from her training. She frisks those coming into her private quarters for weapons. She also has an obsession with sweets, something she was only exposed to after leaving the cult.
Appearance:
Anemone is a small Japanese girl, slim, lacking much body fat or muscle, and short. Her black hair is messy, only vaguely organized in two small tails that rest on her shoulders. She sometimes wears her namesake in her hair, color depending on her mood. She has a round face and slightly squashed nose. Dark brown freckles dot her cheeks and nose. Her outfits vary. Often she wears a school uniform or casual clothes, depending on the nearest school’s preference. Usually wearing a backpack, she hides her deadly gear within.
Powers:
Ki- Anemone is well-trained in the use of ki to enhance her body. She doesn’t use projections of ki, instead focusing it all on her agility, making her fast and capable of leaping incredible distances. She can do some strange, esoteric things with it as well, taught to her in her former cult training and perfected on her own.
Fists- Anemone, while weak by Hidden World standards, has honed her body into a weapon. She can kill regular humans nearly as efficiently with her bare hands as with a weapon, but prefers her weapons for real targets.
Water run- As long as she keeps up her momentum, Anemone can briefly run across the surface of water, using ki to strengthen the surface tension so it holds her weight. She can only keep this up for a few steps before it fails, so it’s only for a quick burst.
Substitution- Anemone can expend ki to dart away and leave behind an afterimage. Usually used to give the impression she’s been hit by a lethal attack to lower her enemy’s guard and allow her to retaliate.
Red Eyes- Due to her Shizuka Kurasu blood, Anemone has the royal red eyes. Passively, her eyes pick up more light and detail, allowing her to see at night much better than a regular human. With some strain, she can activate heat vision, and with much greater strain, a vast heightening of her perception of time, making others look slower for the split second she can keep it up. Overuse damages her vision temporarily, meaning it’s a power to be used judiciously.
Gear:
Anemone keeps a variety of tools in her backpack, from weapons to utility devices.
Climbing Claws- Short claws that fit over the hands and feet to allow climbing up sheer surfaces. Only used for the highest buildings or cliffs. While sharp, they are poor weapons.
Kakute- A fake plastic jewel pops free of this dinky ring to reveal a poisoned blade. Great for deadly surprise attacks, the kakute can inflect killing blows with minor injuries.
Kusarigama- Anemone’s favorite weapon. A short scythe and chain with a heavy ball on the other end. Anemone uses the ball to strike and entangle people while she slashes with the scythe. The ball and chain can magically become a second kama.
Smoke bomb- Small bombs that release clouds of smoke in an instant. Used for cover when escaping or attacking.
Weakness:Backstabber- Anemone thrives in stealth and trickery, but in a fair one on one fight, she has difficulty. Her focus on agility and trickery leaves her soft and relatively weak.
