Based in the United Kingdom, the Verity Theater Company has been in operation for nearly as long as theater itself. However, their shows are unlike anything the mundane world can produce. For the actors in these plays don’t just tell their stories on stage, they bend reality around them, their hearts producing the stage and bending the world to their feelings. No matter the production, a play by the company is a spectacle like no other.
Each member of the company has been taught the highly secret technique: Stage of the Heart. By unleashing this skill, the immediate area falls into a pocket dimension that reflects the current mental states of the actors inside. Inside this pocket dimension, a ring of audience members will appear, wishing to connect with the performance being given.
Unlike the outside world, traditional means of combat are nearly useless in this field. The actors on stage must construct a narrative together, each adding their own actions and dialogue to connect with the audience. The more the audience connects with an actor, the stronger they become. The more heartfelt the acting, the more the audience will connect with the actor. The way to win in a Stage of the Heart battle is to defeat the opponent physically, as well as convince the audience of your victory.
While most battles take place between actors in the company, any member can summon anyone they choose into a Stage of the Heart battle in order to subdue them. If there are extra people summoned, they join the audience on the sidelines. They are able to enter the stage only if they can give a convincing enough excuse for their intrusion into the ongoing narrative. The victor of the battle normally spares their opponents though, for audiences love ongoing narratives between those whose hearts have collided.
Members:
Cassia Winter:
Born into a family where both her parents were already talented actors in the company, it was only natural for Cassia to join when she became old enough. The weight of these high expectations drove Cassia to practice her singing, acting and dance skills every day to live up to the expectations. Due to this pedigree, Cassia can come off as arrogant, even sheltered at times. But despite her jokes and nature, there is no denying her skill as an actress.
Viola Donnelly
One of the company’s younger members, Viola joined to hone her acting talents and gain more confidence within herself. She is a somewhat shy girl, but finds theater to be an easy way to express her feelings to the world. Viola’s specialty is with singing, but is also intelligent to the point where memorizing lines is natural to her. Viola deeply appreciates her more seasoned actors, and is always looking to improve. For some strange reason though…she sometimes sees memories that don’t appear to be her own.
Kenrick Severins
A classical Shakespearean, Kenrick comes across as a no-nonsense serious actor, but frequently displays a dry sense of humor and even the occasional brush with scenery-chewing. He loves soliloquies and monologues enough that some people consider him a bit of an attention hog, but he insists that they are simply the height of performance.
Ian Daniels
Having been with the company for many years, Ian also works as a production assistant with the director to work out the fine details of the shows. Relaxed by nature, he’s good at dealing with challenging personalities like Cassia, and directing their energy to more productive areas. While no doubt a talented actor, Ian enjoys staying with minor roles in productions, something that baffles many of the other actors who fight to try and get the main roles whenever possible. He frequently teases Cassia, enjoying seeing a prima donna like her drop the façade and call him all kinds of names.
