Name: Yuuta Kaito
AKA: The Voidbringer
Age: 22
Height: 2 mts
Weight: kg
Alignment: Neutral
Background
Kaito’s father walked out when he was only a child, old enough to remember it but young enough that it’s foggy in his mind. His mother stayed, of course, but he barely saw her, as she juggled multiple jobs and was usually too tired to spend time with him when she made it home. He wandered alone through his early life, never forming any deep relationships, only superficial friendships and flirtations. Then he met Yasu Yamazaki. She captured his heart in a way nobody had before, and he quickly grew infatuated. Nobody else could capture his eye, and he spent years obsessing over a way to get close. When he heard her father was a martial arts teacher on the weekends, he sought out skills that would impress her.
His attitude got him kicked out of many dojos before he came across an old man in the streets. He was scrawny and ancient, but seemed at peace every time Kaito passed him. Kaito got to know him, learning that he was apparently a martial artist of sorts, living an ascetic life as part of his training. After months of badgering, he began to teach Kaito his art. Through his skills and other means, Kaito won over Yasu Yamazaki, but their relationship is stormy and his master is increasingly wary of their attachment. He has become involved with the Hidden World at the insistence of his master, sent on missions in an attempt to hone him into a more reliable man. As part of this, he has entered the HWBC, reaching #40 in the Waxing Fists.
Personality
Kaito has a short fuze. It doesn’t take much to get him angry, and it takes even less to make him irritable. On a good day, however, he is deeply affectionate with those he loves, even as he is terrified they will disappear. He makes every effort to keep people in his life happy and draw more people into his orbit, even while reacting to any sign that he might lose somebody with fury. Those who meet him might only see his gentle side, only to be blindsided when his temper emerges.
Appearance
Kaito is extraordinarily tall, but also strikingly lean. His body is hard with wiry muscle, and his face is just as sharp. He is all triangles, even his eyes having a sharp angle to them. He dyes his hair blonde and grows it out for a leonine look, and always dresses simply.
Powers and Abilities
Kaito is a practitioner of what his master refers to as “void style”, a mysterious art revolving around the power of emptiness, physical and mental. At its base, this martial art provides superior stamina, speed, and strength to an ordinary human, as well as less need for food and air. In addition, it involves some regular martial arts techniques, although it is lacking in blocks, as practitioners are expected to use their supernatural techniques to avoid harm.
Spatial Scoop- The fighter swipes at the air, sweeping away the space between themselves and their opponent. Used to close distance on particularly stubborn targets.
Pocket- A practitioner gains a pocket dimension they can store things in, pulling them out of thin air when they need them. As this dimension has no air, light, or anything else not placed there directly, so very few living things can survive there. Kaito’s space is about the size of a dresser drawer, but masters can make massive spaces to themselves.
Vacuum Bubble- With a complicated motion of the fist, a void style artist can create a bubble of vacuum in a small space, usually a diameter of about a foot. This has two uses. One, it can be used to deny an opponent air. Two, it can create a shockwave as air rushes back in, directed by a clever fighter to harm their opponents. With focus, Kaito can even create a larger bubble that sucks air and opponents in until he releases it with a powerful blast. He must remain still as he maintains this larger vacuum, and with a lack of care, releasing it can hurt him just as much as his enemies.
Space Slip- One of the most difficult techniques and one that Kaito has yet to master, the space slip is void style’s greatest defensive trick. Not quite teleportation, not quite intangibility, for a single moment, this technique takes the user out of step with reality. They are difficult to see, looking “off” to observers, like they have somehow sunk into the floor while also floating to the ceiling. Nothing seems to touch them, and they pop readily to another nearby location (nearby meaning within a few feet in Kaito’s case) before the technique ends. Done right, this allows the fighter to evade direct hits and slip away unharmed. Done wrong, the user will be grievously injured as objects that they have stepped into expel themselves violently, likely taking a chunk of flesh with them. Kaito cannot travel through walls with this ability, as attempts to do so usually leave him stuck in them until he is painfully repulsed.
Void Mind- The ultimate technique of the void style, and one that Kaito has only rarely pulled off. The user must completely empty their mind, letting go of all attachment and emotion. In this state, their eyes turn pitch black and their movements become flawless, without waste. In this state, Kaito can use all of his techniques perfectly, but the cost is high. It is extremely mentally draining to enter, so if he falters before finishing a fight, he is at a disadvantage, and while void style makes it difficult to read or alter the mind of somebody using it, Kaito is still vulnerable to a mental push to snap him out of it.
