1:15pm, Musashi Castle
“And now, flip!” Osechi cheered, watching as the white-haired child before her flipped the pancake in the pan. It landed halfway out of the pan, but Osechi diligently grabbed the edge and tossed it back in, flagrantly disregarding the risk of a burn. The shinto waved her fingers in the air twice, before putting them in her pocket.
Kaguya watched the pancake cook, proud of her work. “Yaaaaaaaay!” She cheered, Osechi patting her on the shoulders. “And that’s all you have to do! Once that’s out, we can add so much stuff to it! Chopped bananas, butter, strawberries, syrup, chocolate…” Osechi’s mouth began to drool, while Kaguya looked up with interest.
“I want chocolate!” She declared. It was at that moment when Mai came walking into the kitchen, casually leaning against the door frame as she watched the two.
“Hey, finally found you two. Come on Kaguya, time to go to school. You’re already 10 minutes late!” Mai said with mild annoyance. Kaguya craned her head back and groaned.
“Whyyyyyyy? What’s the point, I’m going to be super strong anyway. Why do I need algebra?” Kaguya whined. Before Mai could respond, Soon floated into the doorway and leaned her head in.
“Kaguya, we talked about this. Education is important. Now let’s...go.” Soon said sternly, making Mai backup a little.
Kaguya let go of the pan for Oseshi to take over, looking at her parents with annoyance.
“But why?! You never care if I do well or not, mom!” She pointed at Mai, who frowned. “Hey! I take interest in other stuff!” Mai called back. Kaguya then stepped forward.
“So you want me to do something useless just for mom’s sake?!” Kaguya looked at Soon, who was taken aback by this rebellion. “I want to keep playing with Osechi!” She whined.
Soon stepped forward, clapping her hands once to make a loud sound. “Kaguya, we talked about this. You will do as you are told. Am I clear?” Soon instructed, but Kaguya folded her arms.
“No, school is dumb! And so are you two! I’m going!” Before anyone could react, Kaguya burst out of the kitchen at high speeds and crashed through a window, disappearing over the ocean with multiple sonic booms. Soon blasted out after her, but quickly realized Kaguya was far faster than herself.
“Kaguya, WAIT! I’m sorry, can we please just talk?!” Soon yelled out into the expanse of ocean, but she was already out of earshot. Soon turned back and stepped through the window again, turning to her wife.
“Mai, we need every Musashi agent looking for our child! She has no idea what’s out there, or how to get back!” Soon’s voice had cracked, tears already welling up in her eyes. Mai was equally as horrified. “R-right! I’ll get a hold of the other branches!” Mai raced down the hallway, phone in hand and knocking aside anyone who got in her way. “Get out of my FUCKING WAY!” Mai yelled down the hallway as she sprinted.
---
Kaguya flew at hypersonic speeds for several minutes, making waves across the clear blue ocean below with the pressure wave. “Hah, try to force me to go now!” Kaguya turned behind herself and stuck out her tongue. She eventually stopped and began to think.
“What can I do instead...Osechi was fun! Oh, maybe hang out with sensei! I could beat some monster and show how dumb school is.” Kaguya put her hands on her hips proudly. “Might as well head back, lay low from my moms for a little. They’ll see how responsible I am!” Kaguya declared, turning back and blasting back the way she came. But after several minutes...she had begun to realize something as the featureless blue ocean rolled beneath her.
“...I’m lost.”
---
30 minutes later
“This is fine, this is fine...any second it’ll be right there!” Kaguya reassured herself, only seeing tiny uninhabited rocks breaking up the vast blue ocean before her. She had no idea where solid land was, or what direction she was even going. Kaguya looked at the sun with annoyance. She was beginning to wish she’d paid attention in school now to determine which way was north.
Looking back at the ocean, she blasted forward on her way once more.
---
2 hours later...
Panic was beginning to set in as Kaguya darted from island to island, looking for any trace of life beyond birds. She had never been away from people this long, there was always either her parents within calling distance or one of her attendants that could help with anything! She landed on top of a tiny island and looked around, only seeing blue ocean as far as the eye could see.
Spotting a sea turtle resting upon the sandy bank, Kaguya leaned over and stared at it.
“Hey little guy! Do you think you could help me find my way home?” Kaguya asked, her voice wavering slightly near the end. The turtle seemed to stare back at her for several seconds, seeing if she was a predator...before shuffling across the sand and back into the sea. Kaguya let out a sigh.
“No, of course you can’t. I know this ocean doesn’t go on forever…” She tried to reassure herself. Kaguya floated back into the air and blasted off at blinding speeds.
---
5 hours later…
A small growl came from Kaguya’s stomach as she rocketed through the air, the expression on her face changed to panic. “Come on...please, something!” Kaguya yelled in frustration. How far did she fly out?! Was she even going in the right direction?! Looking off into the distance, the sun was beginning to set.
“Am I really going to have to spend the night out here…?” Kaguya asked quietly, now missing her parents more than ever. Even if Soon was mean sometimes and Mai was...Mai, they still made sure to see her off to bed each night. The warmness of her pod now felt so far away…
---
7 hours later…
Panic had now fully set it and the sun was completely over the horizon, bringing forth the cold Pacific night. Kaguya’s speed had now slowed slightly as she desperately searched for any signs of human activity.
“Where...is everyone…?” She meekly asked the ocean, which offered only the gentle sound of water rippling. Hopelessness had now begun to set in as tears began to well up in Kaguya’s eyes.
No, you’re a warrior princess! Don’t...don’t… “MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!” Kaguya’s emotions exploded forth as her speed took off once again, ripping through the ocean below and making a pit of water below that quickly filled in. Tears streamed down her face at the thought of being stuck out here for weeks, not being able to see her parents, not even a roof over her head. “I’M SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!” She yelled out into the watery void.
Kaguya barreled through blindly for several minutes, unable to open her eyes. But her body tensed up when she felt something...nearby?
“Kodokan Ryu Go no Kata: Hypersonic!”
A figure that matched her own speed exploded off the ground and grabbed Kaguya out of the air, smashing their feet against the air to slow the two of them down until both stood floating in the air. Kaguya looked up to see herself in the arms of a familiar black-haired girl.
“Got ya! Your moms have turned Japan inside out looking for you!” Yui commented, grinning. Kaguya felt a wave of instant relief as she buried her head into Yui’s gi.
“Waaaaaaaaaaah...t-thank you…” She meekly let out, totally different to the confident warrior princess Yui usually saw at the dojo. Yui pat Kaguya reassuringly.
“There there, you’re safe now! I’ll call them right now and you’ll be home in no time! Osu!” She said confidently, Kaguya only nodding her head as the two of them descended into an island near Okinawa. Safe at least.
---
It took only 10 minutes for Mai and Soon to arrive on the scene and immediately wrap Kaguya into a hug. Soon let out a grunt when Mai’s squeezing began to crush her own body, making her wife ease up a little.
“Moooooooooooooooooom!” Kaguya let out between sobs, Soon being in full mother mode as she hugged back. “We are going to talk about this at home, Kaguya...but I’m glad you’re safe.” She kissed the top of her daughter’s head. Soon then stepped back to let Mai have some time.
“What the hel-heck were you thinking?!” Mai yelled, wrapping Kaguya into a tighter hug that would have probably broken the spine of a normal human. “We had the entire Musashi and as many bounty hunters as we could find looking for you! Just…” Mai let out a sigh and continued the hug in silence. Soon joined back in after a few seconds.
“Sorry...for all this…” Kaguya started, before Soon put up her hand. “No. All that matters now is that you’re safe.” Soon glared for a second, then smiled. Mai then picked the both of them up and put them on her shoulders, one on each side.
“I’m not letting either of you out of my sight for the next week! This whole thing gave me a god-gosh dang heart attack…” Mai had a hard time toning down her swearing, much to Soon’s delight. She took the two of them over to a taxi and loaded them all on, taking a seat as it began to take them to a Musashi teleport station.
Kaguya hadn’t let go of Soon’s hand the entire time. Exhaustion had now begun to set in, and the white-haired girl slowly began to drift off to sleep. “I’d love a smoothie when we get back…” Kaguya said deliriously. Soon stroked her hair. “You can have all the smoothies you want, honey.”
Giving a smile, Kaguya’s eyes closed as she leaned against Mai’s shoulder. “I love you guys…” She muttered, and drifted off to dreamland. Mai’s face lit up with excitement, but Soon quickly shush’d her.
When the taxi pulled into its destination, the group filed out of the taxi and waved it goodbye. Mai turned to her wife and smiled. “Phew, what a day. So, is Kaguya on your back?” She asked.
Soon’s eyebrow lowered. “Me? She was leaning against you.” Soon’s expression grew into a glare...then fright as they both realized in unison.
“STOP THAT CAR!”

Epilogue: Pure of Heart
"Mooooooooom!" Kaguya yelled out across the hall, not getting a response from either. She puffed her cheek out in a pout. "Where are those two...?" She asked nobody as she wandered the halls. Maybe Aunt Akane was open to play?
Walking across the castle, Kaguya saw that Akane's room was open slightly. Pushing her way through quietly, Kaguya began to whisper. "Hello...?" The child whispered into the empty room. She then heard the sound of running water coming from the bathroom. Her cheeks puffed out again. "Uuuuuugh, she's busy too?! Wait..." Kaguya's eyes sparkled when she saw that Akane had left her sheath laying outside the bathroom.
Softly tip-toeing toward it, Kaguya quickly grabbed the sword and made her way back outside, leaving the door as she had found it. She then ducked around a corner and giggled.
"Kaneshige...Aunt Akane's cool sword!" Kaguya squealed. She put the sword to her side dramatically, grabbing the handle and slowly pulling it out...until realizing her arms were too short for the full draw.
"Oh come on..." Kaguya whined, repositioning her hands and finally pulling the rest of the sword out. She looked at the blade in awe. "Woooooooow..." Kaguya marveled. Could she own this one day?
Giggling to herself, Kaguya ran down the hallway with the sword. Several people began to greet her...but stood in shock when they saw Kaneshige. "How is she holding that?!" Several people cried out. Finally, she skid to a stop in the training area with several straw dummies.
"Ok, let's see what you're made of! Haiiiiiiya!" With a clumsy strike, Kaguya slashed at a dummy like a baseball bat and cleaved it in half. She let out a squeal of excitement and began to swing it at other parts of the figure.
---
After hearing the commotion outside and several angry text messages, Mai arrived at the training area to see what her child was holding. "Hey uh, Kaguya! What's that you have there...?" Mai asked with hesitation. Kaguya paused her flailing and smiled, presenting the blade. "Kaneshige! I uh, borrowed it from aunt Akane. Please don't tell her." Kaguya's eyes widened at the prospect of Akane being angry.
Mai was dumbfounded. "Kaneshige...how are you even holding that thing?! Give it here, that's not a t-OW!" Mai reeled back when she tapped the handle, getting a shallow cut on the back of her hand. "So it doesn't like me still..." Mai growled. Kaguya rushed over and inspected her mom's wound. "A-are you ok?!"
Before Mai could answer, a tall figure emerged from the doorway. "She'll be fine. You should see some of the hits she's taken, Kaguya." Akane said, strolling confidently into the room with wet hair. Kaguya took a few steps back, making Akane laugh.
"Relax, I'm not going to bite! Frankly, I'm impressed. Not everyone can draw that sword, you know. It decides who gets to wield it...and the blade thought you were worthy." Akane said with a smile. Kaguya's eyes twinkled with excitement. "Does that mean I can keep using it?!"
"Hm...no." Akane reached down and grabbed the hilt in one graceful motion, spinning it around and placing it back into the sheath. "But perhaps if you start training under me, I can pass Kaneshige down to you. One day." Giving a wink, Akane strolled out of the room, leaving an awestruck Kaguya and slightly bitter Mai behind nursing her wound...physically and to her pride.
“And now, flip!” Osechi cheered, watching as the white-haired child before her flipped the pancake in the pan. It landed halfway out of the pan, but Osechi diligently grabbed the edge and tossed it back in, flagrantly disregarding the risk of a burn.
