The cabin was of a decent size, but utterly unremarkable when looked at from the outside. Even the area surrounding the cabin was beyond dull by all accounts. Uninhabited forest for miles all around. The cabin was wholly made of wood, with a small herb garden in the front, and an even smaller animal pen in the back. The inside of the cabin was similarly humble, devoid of any technology, unnecessary appliances or decorations. It was a workshop first and foremost and it showed. Old dusty books and various ingredients both of the flora and fauna variety were strewn across each of the three rooms that made up the cabin's interior. On each shelf or table sat an odd-looking apparatus with an indeterminate purpose, and the areas of the cabin where were not as likely to be frequented often were covered in cobwebs and thick layers of dust.
Vali sat in an old yet surprisingly comfortable armchair in what could be considered the main room of the cabin. It seemed a bit cliche to him that a warlock would choose this as their workshop, but then again Vali wasn't one to even dabble in magic, so maybe these things just because second nature once you started practicing the art. He was dressed in his adventuring gear from head to toe. His legs were crossed and his chin rested on his fist as he frowned at a young man standing in front of him while clutching a book.
"Let me get this straight." Vali began in a monotone voice. "A week ago, you frustrated some rich city mage's ritual by... doing it first? Doing it better? Doesn't matter, point is, his failed because of yours."
The young man in front of him nodded somewhat nervously. "Y-Yes, you see he had hired men bring him the sacrifice, deliver the ingredients to him, I actually went out and did all of that myself. It can make a world of difference for a ritual if you're willing to get your hands dirty and do some work yourself you know. First I we-" the man's explanation was cut short with a sharp glance from Vali. Although he couldn't cast a spell to save his life, Vali was well versed in the mechanics of magecraft, particularly rituals and curses. His and the young man's mothers were witches of the same coven after all.
"Then, you anticipated that he'd challenge you to a duel over the whole incident and you retreated to this here cabin to prepare. But, this morning a friend contacted you to tell you the mage wouldn't be coming for you himself but rather that he had hired not one, but two different assassins to come after you, with a bigger payout for the one who presented him your head." Vali grabbed a glass contraption from a nearby table and started playing with it as he continued to summarize the situation.
"And then, since it was not another mage coming for you but rather professional killers without a shred of honour or want for dueling with spells, you panicked. And going down the list of people you knew who could help you some you landed on me, and decided you'd beg and drag me out of my home to come to your desolate little cabin workshop so that we may duke it out with the bad men who are after you." Vali finished as he rose from his arm chair and put aside the device he had been playing with.
"Well... yes, that about sums it up." the warlock who had summoned Vali sheepishly admitted. He was a couple years older than Vali, a young man by the name of Lazar. Unlike many of the children Vali grew up alongside with, Lazar was not in fact a half breed but the son of a witch and a sorcerer making him wholly human. In youth the two of them were barely acquaintances. Lazar had been fully focused on his magic studies and had little interest in the ordeals Vali would get himself and his friends into. Lazar had always been the studious type and it somewhat seemed to Vali that the guy didn't really have a stomach for violence, at least not physical violence, so be it as it may, the young warlock needed him now.
Vali cracked his knuckles as he smirked. "Well, I'd be annoyed with you if it didn't sound so damn fun!" he threw one arm around the young warlock's neck and used his other hand to punch him on the shoulder lightly, though Lazar would have disputed the lightly part.
"Nothing to worry about. I always help a friend in need. Besides, it's been a while since I got to kick someone's ass."

"Goddammit, why can't these freaks just live in the city? I always get the gloomy places."- Soon said as she flew over the woods, finding the wooden cabin wasn't particularly bad, but the whole thing was sorta sketchy. A mage wanting to kill an evil warlock? Looking at the way the mage described him, the warlock was nothing short of the son of the devil. In any case, this one was an order of the elder council, she had to do it wether she wanted or not.
Tracking someone in the forest was not a difficult task, the more complex the creature, the bigger their brain signals, and a warlock was pretty much a beacon compared to the woodland creatures, .
As Soon reached the cabin she activated her virtual machine. The place itself was...somewhat disappointing, like the home of some random human, at least, that's the main impression it gave her. odd, she thought it would look more akin to a monster lair...the mage who hired her knew, right? only under very specific circumstances the Musashi hunted humans, maybe if she could find some evidence of evil nearby, she would be justified to use full force.
"Come on, there's gotta be some sort of torture chamber nearby, maybe some human experimenting going on...give me something"-The Esper said as she looked at the herb garden rather unimpressed. Soon floated around the cabin and looked at the animals, nothing she could really use as an excuse to blow up the house.
"Tch, alright, come out now warlock, you know why I'm here"- Soon shouted at the inside of the cabin, she made some distance and finally set her feet on the ground as she waited for him to come out.

Johnathan chandler hopped from branch to branch. There was a perfectly good footpath, but he had his reasons for taking the trees. First of course, it was a lot less expected. Something you learned when you could fly was that people didn’t usually think to look up. More importantly, it was fun. It didn’t come totally naturally, but once he extended his prehensile tail to swing with, he found himself as agile as a spider monkey. It wasn’t long before he had sniffed out the cabin, coming to a halt on a branch overlooking it.
The nice thing about warlocks was it was easy to find them by scent. Sulfur, little bits of magic beasts, old dried blood, it all screamed to him from miles away. He took a few more sniffs. There were at least three people here. All at least partially human, although spell components were making it hard to tell what else might be mixed in. Two men, one woman. In fact, the woman was visible to other senses now. His eyes alighted on a beautiful bluehead, yelling at the front of the cabin. So others had already picked up on the bounty.
His eyes flicked over her. Oh bounteous goddess! She was a sky-haired queen! Eyes that drew him in and blew him away and a chest he could get lost in! He slicked back his hair and hopped from the tree, landing gently behind her. “Hello! I assume you are also here for the bounty?” John approached, offering his hand. The instant she took it, he would bow, showing off catlike flexibility. He was clad in relatively simplistic garb for this woodsy mission, jeans, a black and green jacket, and a brick red polo shirt underneath, all deceptively expensive and well-made. John went nowhere underdressed. “I do not recall you, but I could surely not forget a face like yours. You are not with the BHA, no?”

For a brief moments a blue light could be seen coming for the cabin, illuminating every window and turning the small building into a beacon if just for a second. There was no sound, nor did the cabin stir any more after that. Yet the assassin would not be left waiting all too long after all. Whatever odd ritual the two men in the cabin had performed, did not cause them to linger.
"Yo!" Vali called out to them as he stepped outside the meet them. "You two are the assassins I take it? The warlock does indeed know why you're here, but I'm afraid he ain't coming out." he said to the two in a flat voice as he crouched down, making sure his boots were on properly. "I don't think there's any point in asking, but Lazar begged me to and since it's his life on the line I guess I have to indulge him. Turn back and give up on that bounty. There's nothing here for you." as Vali spoke he crossed his arms over his chest, looking at the two, regarding them with steely eyes. He wasn't sure what to make of the woman truth be told. She looked little more than a young woman to him, barely out of her teens. Not that he had any grounds to talk, he was still a teen himself. Besides, Vali knew better than to underestimate a Hidden World opponent just based on how they looked. He was pretty certain there were individuals out there who looked like children yet could squash burly combat hardened men like flies. The man on the other hand was different.
"Wait... you're demonbrood aren't you?" Vali asked the man with genuine surprise and curiosity on his face. His whole childhood he had been surrounded by all manner of demon offspring, meeting one outside of that context felt utterly strange. Usually, Vali would have gotten to the fighting straight away, that was the fun part after all, but seeing that Lazar made him offer them the chance to leave Vali would have to wait for their response. And he was somewhat curious as to what the half-demon would say. For now he simply stood his ground and waited.

Soon shook the demon's hand, instantly reading his flirty tone.
*Oh look, an idiot*- She thought to herself, making sure her mind was actually blocked from being read this time. didn't want to repeat that same fiasco of Greenwater.
"What's the point in me telling you? a gentleman has no memory, right? ♥"- Soon said with a charming tone as she lightly touched his chin. Most demons probably knew Musashi hunt them for free and she didn't want any of that at the moment, she just felt like killing the warlock and heading back home. Mai was waiting for her to pick the centerpieces for their wedding.
When the man came out Soon rolled her eyes. Great. He hired a bodyguard.
Soon looked at John and then at the warrior, he wasn't particularly intimidating, but she played along.
"Oh is that so? Well what do you think, my fellow assasin? should we just give up?"

“You mistake me. Forgetting a name is simply bad manners, and I would never be so rude.” John smiled at her touch. Hard to read her… but he wouldn’t push too hard. Somebody was coming to the door anyway. “Assassin is a harsh word. Your friend has an outstanding bounty and I am taking him to the man he wronged for recompense.” He stepped away from Soon, bowing to the bodyguard. “Oh, you can tell? Jonathan Chandler, cambion, gentleman, philanthropist, at your service.” He extruded his long tail and waved the point, showing off his inhuman traits.

Vali grinned at the response the girl gave. Good, he was getting a fight out of this. And maybe some banter too if the two kept their jovial mood even after Vali started punching them into the dirt. The man introduced himself as Jonathan and confirmed Vali's suspicions. He was somewhat proud of himself that he could actually tell demonspawn just by looking. Unlike most cambions he knew however, this one seemed to be awfully courteous. A bit too much for Vali's taste if he were to be honest, but he wouldn't hold it against the demon man.
Vali shrugged at the assassin comment.
"If things go as you envisioned my friend's gonna be dead and your wallet a bit heavier by the end of it. Paint it however you like, but that's wetwork plain and simple." Vali supplied, yet it didn't sound like he was particularly annoyed with the man for the attempt on Lazar's life, and was more being pedantic about an honest approach to life.
"Well, how are we gonna do this? Just have at it until one side can't stand? Any rules? Bets?" Vali smirked as he spoke. The details didn't matter to him too much, as long as he got a good fight.

The esper noticed this guy was like one of those shonen manga heroes who loved fighting and was pretty much full of himself all time. pretty much not the smart type, huh?
She looked elsewhere, completely uninterested in following along Vali's game. She crossed her arms and sighed.
"Well I was told this would be an easy job, but since you are here I guess I won't be taking part in this, not like I need the money anyway"- Soon shrugged as she backed away, sitting on a boulder nearby, nearly tripping as she climbed.

“Rules, eh? It isn’t often that somebody suggests those before a life-or-death battle, I must say. Well perhaps that’s the rub. I prefer not to kill and I especially prefer not to be killed, so how does a moritorium on murder sound to you? Both winner and loser walk away to fight another day.” He frowned a little when the other bounty hunter sat it out… but the way she tripped climbing the boulder was too cute to get especially mad. He resisted the urge to help her out and kept focusing on his supposed enemy here. “If that all sounds good to you, step right up and we can give the lady a show.” John’s body lowered into the position of a sprinter and his back seemed to hunch unnaturally.

"A lazy hitman is a hungry hitman." Vali said to the girl though he continued eyeing her as she sat down on a nearby rock. "Well, let's call that a partial success for my diplomacy skills." he said though he didn't even try to hide the disappointment in his voice.
The demon seemed far more eager than his companion. Though even then he said something strange which caused Vali to rub the back of his head. "An assassin who doesn't like killing or to be killed huh? Lazar's a bit of an oddball, so I guess it make sense that oddballs would come to claim his life."
A more positive surprise for Vali was the fact that Johannes actually indulged him on the matter of rules. It was pretty simple and self-explanatory as far as conditions went and Vali found himself simply shrugging at it. "Can't say much to that. To be honest I wasn't gonna kill you to begin with. Not sure if I can offer you the same luxury though." Vali eyed both the cambion and the girl as he spoke. "You see, my mom and the warlock's mom made us play together when we were toddlers, like moms do. I couldn't face either of them if I lost here and then turned my back on Lazar to save my own hide. I can't stop. Loss and death will be one and the same to me." he admitted that he had no intention of backing down.
"But... I may be able to indulge you after all." Vali said. "All I have to do is accept your condition and then beat you. That's the only outcome possible here." the young warrior announced in a brazen voice as his stoic expression slowly became a smirk.
He slammed his fist in his open palm, took a deep breathe and assumed a simple stance, with his arms at chest height and his right foot pulled slightly back.
"First strike goes to the challenger." he declared as he waited, tense as a bowstring.

“Well that sounds like a fair deal. I promise, though, that I have ways to make you stay still.” John straightened his coat before two enormous black wings sprang from his lower back. One flap and a kick off and he became a bullet riding the wind, rushing right up into Vali’s face. His hand shot out for the back of Vali’s knee, trying to yank it out from under him. Where his fingers touched, they began to leech energy, although Vali’s clothing slowed it. His dark wings were already withdrawing, leaving only a few scattered ebony feathers.

"You got this, Jonathan!" Soon cheered on the back, she was clad in armor, but she was sure glad she didn't have to fight. Either of them could ruin her nails.
The esper looked at the fight. She saw how the incubus reached for Vali, it would be a shame if he dodged that, so she gave him a little hand.
As John was about to grab Vali, Soon set up a TK wall on Vali's back, it wasn't something that would damage him, but it was done to prevent him from backing away. Naturally, the "wall" was invisible. It would be nearly impossible to tell it had been her, especially when the guy didn't know the full extent of John's abilities and he couldn't afford to focus on her.

Vali gave no spoken response to what Johnathan had said, he only offered him a smirk as the cambion charged. Vali had spent his entire childhood surrounded by demonspawn of all manners and he imagined he had a pretty good idea on what his opponent had in his arsenal. Of course, demons and their offspring tended to be quite varied, yet knowing John was a cambion narrowed it down considerably. In any case, he'd be sure once he saw the man in action. His charge did not end in a strike as Vali had hoped. His wish had been to measure his strength against his opponent in their first exchange. The demon had opted to go for a grapple of sorts instead however. Vali's smirk did not vanish as his opponent reached for his knee.
Although his pants would have under normal circumstances provided minuscule protection against Jonathan's powers, the cambion would be sorely disappointed to find that Vali's garments not so much hindered the touch based power, but rather completely inhibited it. Another Aegis's most prominent feature was its lessening of physical attacks against Vali, yet its ability to protect his person from malignant effects which did not necessarily damage was an equal if not greater boon. If the cambion wished to drain him, he would have to shatter the Aegis first.
Vali grinned as his leg was pulled out from under him. For a moment it seemed as though the young warrior would fall, and in a way he did. He abandoned any attempt to keep his balance, and instead his other leg shot up as well. But rather than limply being pulled out from under him, it shot out like a whip, a blur aimed at Jonathan's head. As he aimed the strike at his opponent, Vali was almost parallel with the ground, as if he were floating in mid air.
From that position he shot the young girl on the rock a look, all the while keeping one eye on Jonathan to see how he'd react.

In a very brief period, several things went wrong. Buoyed by Soon’s encouragment at his back, he made contact, but immediately, something was wrong. His fingertips took nothing through Vali’s pants. Were there wards in them? Normally even full armor couldn’t entirely stop his draining ability. In the same moment, Vali simply ceased to fall, and before John could readjust to the sudden lack of movement, something connected with his head, throwing him off of Vali’s body to land on the path, single hand buried in the moss as the other felt his skull.
A trickle of blood ran from his hairline and he frowned. “One moment.” He slipped out of his coat and threw it over a branch, saving it from having his blood fall upon it instead of the red shirt underneath. “Alright.” He rushed in again, extending a hand supposedly to grapple Vali’s leg again. It proved to be a feint when blue flames flickered in his hand and with a thrust of his palm, fire surged across the whole doorway that Vali guarded. This was John’s friendly flame; the fires burned the body like any other, but with no feeling but pleasure, and drained away the energy of what they touched, just like John. He would snuff them if they totally overwhelmed Vali, but otherwise, he kept them going.

Soon sighed slightly frustrated by John's failed offensive, at this rate that guy was going to win!
*so he had some sort of invisible armor, well that shouldn't be too much of a problem*- She thought to herself.
The esper jumped down from the rock, not without floating to safety. she then flew around the fight and into the cabin
"I'm gonna go ahead guys, got a few questions to ask Mr. warlock before I pull the trigger. And don't worry John, I'm willing to give you your fair share."
with a TK push she destroyed the door and floated in.
"Anyone here? just wanna talk, like, really. if you don't come out I will destroy the cabin tho"

There was the briefest of pauses in the fight as John felt it necessary to modify his attire slightly. Vali couldn't blame him for it, he himself came out here wearing the exact clothes he'd want to wear in a battle fully expecting that he could get into a fight.
"Hey was that coat filled with iron plates or something? You know, weighted training robes restricting you and all that and now're you're gonna be faster and stronger?" Vali asked his opponent in a just slightly mocking tone as he prepared for round two. Once more he allowed John to take the initiative, with the demonspawn opting for a more magical attack this time around. True to his demonic nature, John conjured up flames, setting the area around the entrance to the cabin ablaze. Vali braced himself, ready to jump away to safety as the flames came. Although his Aegis would mitigate what damage the flames would do, he could still be burned through it if he acted carelessly, and of course his Aegis could hold out for only so long. Yet... when the flames licked his legs he felt nothing. It seemed whatever effect the flames carried, they did not in fact cause direct damage. In fact, Vali had the sneaking suspicion that the flames were meant to do the same thing John's grapple was supposed to do earlier.
As Vali stood in the flames he crossed his arms and gave John a wide grin.
"Cute."
His mirth did not last too long however as he girl sprung into action now. Her warning did indeed cause Lazar to poke his head out from the back room, just enough to actually see the entrance and beyond it.
"Y-Yes?" the timid mage called out. Though he wasn't exactly defenseless, he didn't have the nerve to show any confidence when confronted by a hitman.
Vali dashed back without wasting a single more thought on John, as much as he wanted to have a proper fight with the demon, his job here wasn't to have a proper fight. He dashed at Soon from behind, but rather than aiming a blow at her, he imitated John in a fashion, intending to grab Soon and fling her back, further away from the cabin, and more importantly, into the flames John had summoned.

Ah hell. Whatever defenses this guy had, they were pretty much dedicated to screwing John over. “Great. Well now this has gotta be more painful for you and more exhausting for me.” He said and his entire body tensed. Smooth hair branched and became shaggy, lean muscles swelled. A red and purple cast came over his skin, secreted as a thin slime coming from his pores. His body hunched, but before he was done, Soon was rushing in. Just as quickly, she was tossed. “Ah, fuck!” He lunged for her, flames vanishing before him. She landed in his arms and his wings flapped once, twice, to balance out. He slid on one one knee, Soon cradled in his arms.
“My apologies for catching you without your permission, but a body as wonderful as yours should not be dashed upon this hard floor.” He set her upon the floor and his back arched. Two further pairs of wings spring from his back, splattering slime across the floor. “Surrender anytime.” Faster than before, he flew forwards again, lashing out with a hand now tipped with razor-sharp talons, seeking to slash Vali’s chest right across his rib cage. His other hand dropped, trying to stab Vali’s thigh. He was feeling out how tough that shield of his was. Could rapid attacks drain it?

Soon put up a friendly expression when the warlock came out, was he dumb? or maybe just not malicious? She couldn't just shoot him now.
"Oh hi! I was wondering if y-" the esper felt the pull by Vali, being sent flying away out of the cabin before any sort of conversation could be made, before she could even fly on her own she was caught mid-air by John.
"T-thanks..."- Soon replied slightly unsure as to how to respond to the guy who put her out of harms way while flirting in the same move.
Now this was a bit of a problem, if he wouldn't even let her speak to the warlock, she would have to get through him.
"Well I tried being sort of reasonable but I'm afraid I'm going to have to...incapacitate you"- Soon said as she flew up just enough to see the fight between Vali and John unfold.
with a hand motion five light orbs came around her, she concentrated and changed their glow until they became dark purple orbs.
"This should do"- The esper shot the five dark orbs towards Vali, they were not lightspeed like her usual beams, but what they lacked in speed was compensated in potency, should they hit they would do massive ammounts of damage.

Vali was starting to feel cocky. Not that the young man wasn't confident to a fault at the onset of the fight anyway, but things seemed to be going just right for him as his two opponents had to find any success in assaulting him thus far. Of course, that moment of indulging his own prowess came at a price. His smirk was wiped away almost instantly as John came charging at him once more, this time with even more vigor. Vali didn't even have time to try and block the attack and simply found himself retreating backwards, yet even that was too slow. Before he could leap out of range John's attacks connected.
Vali let out a small grunt, as he stumbled back. He managed to transition his clumsy retreat into a backflip, to regain his footing only to be sent flying again by the impact of several projectiles from high above. Though his movement had saved him from a direct impact, Vali still found himself reeling from the shockwave. He only came to a halt after smashing into a tree, effectively finding himself resting against it once he had come to a standstill. He ground softly and silently enough to not be heard. He had just taken two full hits and what probably amounted to a couple glancing blows. His Aegis was worse for wear than his body was. John's claws hadn't pierced his skin, thanks both to the effect of the Aegis and his natural durability, yet he could still feel a searing pain around the area the demonspawn had struck. Likewise the attack from the girl had left an unseen mark as well. Vali's limbs still felt as though they were vibrating from the shock, and he couldn't even begin to imagine where on his body he'd find bruising come to the next morning. Most worrying of all however, was
Still... with nothing visible he could save some face at least. His two opponents didn't have to know.
He started approaching the two again as he slowly clapped.
"I'll grant you" he began speaking as he flexed his arm and shoulder "that was" he assumed a low stance as he addressed his two opponents. "a valiant effort!" with his last word he pushed off the ground and became a javelin, shooting towards John seemingly ignoring Soon completely. Yet, if Vali was indeed a projectile and John his target, then he had been thrown short. Vali slammed into the ground int front of John, but not John himself. All the force of his charge also went into the earth before him, rather than his opponent. The result was a massive wave of dirt throw up before Vali and towards John. Although it was quite a massive thing, resulting a small crater forming at the point of impact, the dirt lacked the mass to be an actual threat to the demon-man. Yet, it served as a rather effective smokescreen, a curtain between Vali and John. If Vali had luck on his side, his opponent might even get a mouthful of dirt as a result of his diversion.
Vali's arm rose high, his fingers curled into a fist. He brought it down, swiftly and with all the strength his body afforded him, rotating his whole body from the hip up as his fist descended. Given the rain of mud around the two, neither Soon nor John were likely to see that Vali wasn't necessarily aiming at John or that the Aegis around his arm had taken on a purple hue. Vali whispered almost gently.
"Projection."
Just above Soon, a replica of Vali's arm formed, mimicking its motion.
He intended to slam the girl into the ground before she could launch another attack.

John could see that Vali wasn’t going to reach him with his javelin lunge and prepared for a shockwave of some sort. The wall of earth was close enough. He had a split second to make a decision. Retreat, or push through. Eyes tightly closed, he sprang forwards, soil covering his damp wings before he landed in Vali’s space. He couldn’t open his eyes. Too much dirt on his face, he might get it in his eyes and be blinded longer. Scent wasn’t perfect, with so much dirt in the air, but he had a general sense of where Vali was, and that’s all he needed. His tail lashed out, sweeping for Vali’s leg. It would coil when it found it, pulling taut with the hopes of unbalancing him. A clawed hand shot out to help, seeking to dig into his chest and shove, slamming him into the ground as hard as possible. John wasn’t particularly strong, but when he got Vali on the ground, he could his his superior grappling skills to pin him.
