He wasn’t on the poster. He normally wouldn’t expect to be, not having that kind of clout yet, but it was kind of insulting this time. Mai Musashi was plastered large on the poster, framed by splattered stripes of orange and black. “Debut of the Tokyo Tiger!” Was written in bold at her feet. His name was only slightly bigger than all the other fighters going at it tonight. “Come on dude, you’re still the main event. That’s big.” Alexis punched his arm. “Besides, with all you’ve been through, how much ego can you have left to bruise?”
“Heh. Well that’s fair, I suppose. I’ll just have to win tonight. How are you feeling about your fight?” He cuffed her perhaps a little too hard, making her lurch to the side, but she just laughed. “An ice mage? You kidding me? Even if you didn’t help train me for him, I’d have this in the bag!” Alexis popped her fingers. “Glad you’re confident, because I’ve been giving him pointers for fighting you as well.” Dan smirked. “You what!? Oh come on, this is one of those weird Dan things, isn’t it?” She frowned, slumping over. “He’s also my friend, and besides, a one-sided match is boring. Come on, you agree we me on that much at least.” “You’re nuts, dude. Now I’ve gotta thoroughly destroy him if I want to keep my reputation. Now come on, interviews are on in ten.” Alexis and Dan entered the building.
To the mundane eye, the poster they were observing was a mere patch of graffiti and the building a derelict. One step inside, it changed completely. For one, it was obviously bigger than it was on the outside. The lobby was crowded with expectant viewers, a few girls with nose piercings grabbing Alexis for autographs on her way in. They flashed cards to pass the lobby, entering a room to the side. It was a touch too small for how many fighters there were, a good dozen plus their support crews. The cameraman was having difficulty positioning himself, and Dan and Alexis just made things worse. Dan’s eye roved, looking over those present. It was a tough crowd, but he’d never fight the majority of them. Lots of people in the wrong Leagues. Shame, he saw several he’d love to throw down with. Even Laura Crown was here tonight. But no, he was looking for Mai Musashi.

HW KODKAN DOJO
Soon arrived on a Gx Rhino truck at the Kodokan Dojo, Mai was supposed to just go there and practice a couple of hours a day, however after the first class she told Soon she would stay a while longer. that while longer suddenly turned into a week, which then turned into a month. and now, after a full month, Soon was finally gonna see Mai again.
As the gates of the dojo opened the esper felt the pressure, even though she could not use ki, there was a heaviness in the air, the suspension of the truck visibly lowered almost instantly, what kind of freaks were in there?
The first person to walk out the door was a rather slender woman with black hair and blue eyes, she was wearing a white Gi with a purple belt and was carrying a massive sports bag of sorts, she quickly ran up to meet Soon
"Hello, you are here for Mai, correct? she'll be here soon. Let me introduce myself, I am Yui Shimatsu, the grandmaster's granddaughter. I'll be going as second for Mai"
Soon simply nodded, she didn't even know what to say about the situation, but one thing was for sure, that woman was in a completely different level.
the woman went back inside the dojo and waved at someone, after a few seconds Mai finally came out...
"Hi honey! did you miss me?!"- Mai said with a big smile on her face as she waved at Soon in the truck.
"What the hell happened to you?"- Soon replied in shock.
HWBC EVENT
As the doors opened the Musashi team went in. Soon was floating as usual next to Yui, and following behind was Mai, although nobody would recognize her if they compared her to her poster.
The Musashi was wearing a purple gi with a white belt on her waist, her white hair was now long, almost resembling a lion's mane, but that wasn't what was shocking about her. her height, she was almost 6'4, clearly muscular but not completely ripped like in her perfect warrior mode, and now she had a scar on her left cheek?
Mai walked casually looking at the crowd and whistled impressed.
"phew, looks like there's plenty of fans of this thing...You know? I'm kinda worried I have to represent both Kodokan and the Musashi at the same time"
Yui turned around and smiled
"Well you are a great example of what our white belts can do, plus your name will surely bring us more students"
"Ehh...not sure there's many out there who can survive that fucking hell, wouldnt be surprised if you lost all the people interested after the first day"
As they finally moved deeper into the place, Soon recognized Dan in the distance, she flew towards him to say hi.
"Hey, good to see you again...is...Qiang doing ok?"- She asked him with a bit of fear, knowing the last time she saw the kid, he had been kidnapped.
"Sorry for the gloom talk, in any case, your opponent is here, good luck with that, i think you are gonna need it...she's been eating well clearly"
"Sup, ready to go?"- Mai told Dan in a friendly tone as she arrived, this wasn't so different from any other fight she had up until now, so why even be worried?

Arthur took a deep breath. This was probably going to be his worst match to date. It carried many risks. Revealing his biggest weakness to other opponents. Completely nullifying his strategy of switching to a close-range beatdown to finish his opponent. And worst of all, if he was too careful now, the image he was trying to cultivate as a stylish devil-may-care fighter would be ruined before it could be properly established! And unlike the Wolf Pack in Waxing Fist, he didn't even have a finishing blow for this league yet!
"Don't worry, dad, you got this," Hazel interrupted his self-defeating train of thought.
"Yeah, if she can use fire on you, you just have to make sure she doesn't get a chance to, right?" Love said.
"Right. But I can't win too quickly, you know. In an arena like this, the fighter's reputation is everything and my reputation is as the wolf who'll nonchalantly toy with his prey before his fangs sink in deep. Just changing that out of nowhere is gonna make everyone believe, quite rightly, that I'm worried about what she can do to me. They can't be getting hints like that."
"Geez Arty, I don't think anyone will look into that so deeply. Maybe they'll think your opponent is just so weak she couldn't even touch you." Love said, unaware that there was a part her dad left out. He wasn't even sure he could take a fire user down so quickly. In fact, charging in quickly would just mean he'd end up running into a wall of fire. "Oh, hey! Look Haze, it's that girl we met at Phil's!"
The Cromwell family reached the HWBC's building and the first thing Love noticed was the giant poster with Mai's face plastered on it. "I didn't know she was a fighter here. Or that she fighting tonight," she said
"It looks like it's her debut match. And she's fighting... Dan!" Hazel was shocked when she read the poster.
"So that's the Musashi Dan's fighting? She looks kinda familiar, but I'm not sure why..." Arthur commented. "Well, doesn't change who I'm rooting for in that match. Speaking of which, I wonder if he's already here. Come on, girls."
Arthur led the girls through the crowded lobby. He noticed some people wearing shirts with the same symbol on the coat he was wearing now. Looks like his fanbase was starting to grow. Now he really couldn't disappoint them. Showing his pass to the guard, they moved from the crowded lobby into the even more crowded prep room. It was filled with so many battle-hardened muscular men and women that Loveline was left flushed. Some were even shirtless! The person who drew the most attention however was a giant woman wearing a purple gi. Wait... That's Mai!?
"I don't remember her being this big," Hazel said. "Although I was still smaller then so my perception is somewhat off."
"No, she was definitely smaller. What kind of magic steroids did she use for that growth spurt? I can tell you I wouldn't wanna be in Dan's shoes right now," Love said.
"I... I want to go wish Dan luck, but I don't want to get between the two... Dad, what do you think?"
"Yeah, maybe we should wait for those two to get their trash-talking out of the way. Let's go say hi to my opponent first." Arthur went over to Alexis, followed by Hazel, and Love trailing behind them while observing the other fighters.
"Hey. You're Alexis, right? Gotta say, you look shorter up-close."

Normally, opponents did not approach one another so openly right at the beginning of the interviews, but it was always a delight when they did. The cameraman was forced to make an instant decision of who to cover. Alexis and Arthur seemed spicier, but Dan and Mai were the actual main event. Quickly he made his choice, focusing on tonight’s main fighters.
“Qiang’s great. He’s with Cosmina tonight. He doesn’t like fighting. I don’t know where I went wrong.” Dan drew a light chuckle from the journalists. Good, he was winning the crowd. For now. Holy hell, she didn’t look this big on the poster. He hoped he wasn’t blushing. His face felt hot, so he probably was. The last thing he needed was Alexis piping in and telling him not to treat the HWBC as a dating service again, but luckily, she was distracted. He didn’t do that at all, there were just a lot of attractive women.
“I’m always ready to go. But I, ah, hope everybody’s performances tonight inspire us to be the greatest finale possible!” Everything sounded stilted coming from his mouth. It wasn’t that he didn’t believe it. He actually was excited to see everybody else fight. Those words just weren’t his. They weren’t warmups, they were their own little events. He would throw down with her right in this room, no other fights at all, then go to watch them. He was paying fleeting attention to several of them as he spoke, and noticed Laura out of the corner of his eye. It was a shame he never got to fight her. She was incredible. But right now, she was making the oddest face. Stone cold killer’s eyes, fixed right on Mai. What was up with that?
Not far away, Alexis wasn’t finding such difficulty expressing herself. She looked down at Arthur when he mentioned her height and didn’t say a word for a moment. She just brought her hand up to her head like she was saluting him, then extended it until it was right over his head to emphasize the difference in their heights. “Don’t bring it up if you compare poorly.” Was all she said. This was Arthur, eh? He wasn’t much to look at. Dan said he was short, but he might have been understating it. Of course, she knew damn well that appearances didn’t matter in the world of magic. She was a slender wraith. She shouldn’t have the power she did, going by basic physics. In the Iron Soldiers, sometimes small was good. It was harder to hit a small target. She looked forward to showing off her aim.

Soon smiled, she would have loved to help him back then, but in any case, it was great that the kid was back with him, perhaps they could go out for fish and chips some other time. As the cameramen arrived, Soon moved out of the way.
Dan's comment made Mai slightly laugh, but she kept it together, she was representing other people, so she had to try her best at looking civil, what was she supposed to say again? well whatever, she more or less recalled a chunk of the speech she wrote last night
"I just wanna thank Dan here for taking the fight despite the rank disparity, he saved a good dozen fighters by doing so"- She said almost jokingly, Mai reached out for a bottle of water and began to drink it only to nearly choke the moment she saw Laura. Jeez, what the fuck was wrong with her? it was only a kiss and it was like a year ago! Mai just extended her hands like a baby asking for Soon to come next to her, something the esper did albeit confused.
As Mai sat Soon on her leg and held her by the waist, she took a moment to regain her composure and resumed the talk.
"Where was I? Oh right, Personally, I am here just to show my family what I've been doing the past month, perhaps make them proud for a change...oh, I've also decided to donate all the money I earn from these fights to a random charity or place in need. this time I picked uh... Bradford Adoption Center? that." - Mai said as she read it out of her palm, she looked at Yui who was behind the cameramen and she signed her with a so-so.
*Good enough for me, I just want to fucking grapple already, maybe go somewhere far from that crazy one*- Mai thought to herself.

"Obviously I meant it as a compliment. Smaller enemies are harder to hit, you know." Arthur suddenly became a blur and disappeared. "Especially the fast ones." He was sitting on an ice platform behind Alexis, now at eye level with her. "I hope your fans aren't too disappointed if you don't even land a hit." Arthur gave a cheeky smile. One thing he'd mastered in his job is projecting an image of confidence even when he was nervous inside. And he had good reason to be nervous. She didn't look big and tough, but Arthur could tell her magic potential was more dangerous than any brute he'd come across. Geez, did she really need to have an elemental advantage over him?
"Ah, sorry to interrupt, but have we met before?" Hazel pipped up. "You look really familiar."
Loveline, who'd finally joined them, realized why instantly. "Oh wow, you look just like Amelia. You two could pass for twins."

Dan chuckled when Mai startled. She must have noticed Laura’s face. He would have to ask what that was all about. From Laura’s reputation, she was another bitter ex. Part of him wanted to snipe at Mai, dismiss her generosity since she obviously didn’t need the money anyway, but did it really matter? She was doing something good, she didn’t need to be mocked for it. Even her calling her girlfriend over to act as a teddy bear, immature as it was, didn’t draw any ire from his lips. “I always appreciate a foe I won’t feel bad losing to. But don’t expect that to mean I’ll let you win. See you in the ring.” He extended his hand to shake. Alexis blinked in surprise when Arthur showed off his speed. She felt the cold before she spotted where he had gone. Her face remained stoic, but her heart skipped a beat. He only surprised me because I wasn’t expecting it. If I saw it coming, I could notice him moving. She assured herself. “Amelia? Amelia Leblanc? You know her? We are twins!” Alexis’ mouth split in a shining grin, dark queen persona totally gone. “Oop, we’re about out of time here. We’re on in 15, Arthur. See you soon! And your daughter will have to explain how you know Amelia after I’m done with you! Ciao!” She spun and walked away, leaving the cameraman cursing his choice of conversation to follow.

Mai was somewhat weirded out by Dan, it appeared he didn't know what she was famous for. As he finished talking Mai carefully let go of Soon and she floated away as Musashi moved until she was right in Dan's face.
"Oh please, do fucking resist, not that it will make a difference but I need to make this entertaining"- She said as she looked down on him literally. Mai shook Dan's hand only applying a quarter of her strength, which was still enough to turn a brick into powder. She let go of his hand as she turned around and walked away while holding hands with Soon.
"Well, if you excuse me, I'll go get something to eat while the other guys are fighting. what do you think Soon? maybe there's a steakhouse or something nearby we can order food from, I'd kinda like that"
The Musashi team began to walk away, it wasn't long before Mai felt her feet wet, making her lift one leg as she looked below
"The fuck? who's the idiot who left a chunk of ice dripping in the middle of the lobby? what is this?"- She said as she finger flicked the platform, shattering it to bits.

"You are?" Loveline and Hazel exclaimed in surprise. Sadly, there was no time to explore this revelation. The match was approaching and they had to get ready.
"See you soon indeed. I hope you can still ask them what you want to know after I'm done with you." Arthur grinned.
Arthur let Alexis walk out first before getting off his seat and turning to his daughters. "You girls should get to your seats before we start. You can explain why you know my opponent's twin after this." Love and Haze agreed and the family went their separate ways. Arthur now focused on playing the fight out in his head as a form of last-minute prep. Even if he didn't have hands-on experience fighting her, he could visualize at least some strategy based on Dan's insight and what he'd seen her do in some of her fights.

Dan didn’t flinch when Mai showed off her grip. He just smiled, displaying an almost frightening level of delight at the flex. “Heh. I like the confidence. Keep that, even if you lose today.” He returned the favor, exerting his own considerable strength. “That way… we can have a rematch when you’re a real fighter.” He finally gave the cameraman what he wanted and turned away, noticing Laura by the door on his way out. He adjusted his tie quickly, glad that Haruko had convinced him not to wear a pink suit to anything decently official (the tie, however, was fair game). “So, you’re fighting Aroha, right? I hear she’s tough.” Thankfully, he could be normal talking about fighting. Relatively normal. Laura had been rather bemused the first time he had struck up a conversation with her, but she seemed to put up with him at least out of professional courtesy now. “I’ll win. My healing should be quick enough that little scratches don’t bleed enough to set her off. I’d say my blood is the wrong color to strengthen her at all, but I used to date her brother. Turns out the color doesn’t matter.” She smiled, then sighed. “This is about my reaction to Musashi, isn’t it? I’m over it. It was a year ago. I just wasn’t prepared to see her again. Forget it.” She waved it off and he shrugged, walking on to the door. “Oh, hey, Drake. Good luck. You don’t get to be the headliner every day.” She seemed to be looking past him, but he took the well-wishing in stride anyway. Chest puffed, he walked off to the changing room. Alexis had already arrived in hers. She flexed hands wrapped tight in black cloth. Today was a day for black. No other color on her body. Top, shorts, and coat all dark as night. A sorceress stood in the mirror, smiling back at her. She had this. No way she didn’t. She’d melt this little ice mage. And if he thought he could take this into punching range, well, she had a surprise for him there. “Yo! Alexis! You’re up!” Her coach’s voice came from the door. “Alright Alexis, showtime.” She pointed a finger gun at the mirror and clicked before leaving for the arena. Inside, every light was snuffed, leaving a totally dark arena, and her song kicked on. The crowd’s cheers began when Alexis’ burning form appeared, the only light in the room the thin flickering blaze around her. “I reign with my left, I rule with my right!” The song went and she responded with a flash of flame and the flick of her barbed whip. The crack echoed in the halls, audible even over the crowd. “Randy Howard of the HWBC here, broadcasting live from Vorpals Stadium. We've got an amazing lineup for you today, not a single unwelcome face. The new one is certainly welcome, but she won't be seen until the end of the night! In fact, here comes Alexis Primrose, #34 in the Iron Soldiers and our first fighter tonight! I bet the sadists in the audience are thrilled to have her and Aroha both fighting in one night, eh? What do you think of her chances tonight, Ragnaros?” An old cyborg, silver arms and golden voice, spoke at the announcer’s table. “I think she'll win, Howard. She has the brutality of a true devil and the fire to match. I admire that kind of carnage. But I’m not going to write off Cromwell. He’s one of the most dangerous in the Iron Soldiers when it comes to close range. Really likes the two swords, which is one of my top 50 ways of killing people.” Something like a blazing suit of armor with katana blades for horns sat next to the desk in a summoning circle, head high enough to speak into the microphone for its position, kept attached to the body by a long chain. “Primrose really hasn’t proven herself at close range. She lost her first match when her opponent got in on her whip’s range, if you recall. That’s really a risk against somebody as fast as The Frost Wolf, even if I find his elemental choice much less tasteful.” “So you’re saying it won’t necessarily be a cold day in hell if he wins?” “That’s highly offensive, Randy. Many people died when hell froze over.” Alexis walked down into the arena, a shallow pit nearly as long as a football field. Each side of the arena had a trench and two sections of wall for cover, both of them set to move as soon as the match started to keep them on their toes. She had everything she needed besides Arthur. It was time to burn.

The time had come. Arthur nodded along to Alexis's entrance theme. One couldn't hate on Queen even if it was being played by the enemy. But he grinned with the realization of how his own was a perfect counter. He was the cocky underdog threatening the queen's palace and even the announcers agreed. As her introduction wound down, Arthur took a deep breath and prepared his own entrance. A frostball flew into the corridor, stopping in the air. Followed by a second further down. Then a third further still. Like fireworks they exploded, scattering snowflakes all around. Signaling Arthur's arrival, the flakes froze in the air and the snowy curtains opened for Arthur to somersault into view. He flipped through the entire corridor before leaping high into the air. The snowflakes followed, forming the wolf symbol behind them in time for the song's howls, then scattered as he landed inside the arena, arms to the side and a cocky grin beckoning his enemy to come at him. If she dared.

Alexis glanced back at her coach. She looked an awful lot like Alexis, and even more like Amelia. The grey sweatshirt she wore hardly made her look less like a celebrity and more like a coach, not helped by the fact she had worn ruby earrings and flawless makeup to go with it. The hoodie itself was embroidered with a bright red rose and the words “Primrose Gym”. They didn’t have a real gym of course. Alexis just used their mansion’s state of the art workout room and sparred with partners on the grounds. Coming from wealth had advantages.
Alexis wasn’t thinking about any of this of course. She was just rolling her eyes to her mom in response to the song. “Be polite.” Angela mouthed and Alexis straightened up with a snort. “Bad move, puppy. You admitted I’m in charge, and the house always wins.” She muttered under her breath as the buzzer went off. She tuned out the announcers and raised her hand. From her finger came a swarm of tiny fireballs, spreading, then arching inwards at Arthur. See how he handled this, then initiate step two.

The round started and Alexis accepted Arthur's challenge. Her first move was a swarm of little fireballs. Testing the waters, clearly. Arthur formed a simple wall of ice to block the orbs, then sent it rushing across the ground towards her to push her out of the arena. It was a simple testing of the waters as well, although he was a bit more sneaky about it. He prepared a present for her if she got overconfident in her flames' ability. If she melted the wall, even only the middle to slip through it, a frostball was trailing right behind it to punish her and perhaps even score an early knockout.

Her first attack blocked without effort, Alexis nodded. He could make his own walls. Good move. She jumped behind one of her own walls and let it pass, catching the frostball hiding behind it. Clever. If she wasn’t saving energy, that would have really been a problem. Back to the wall, she lobbed a single fireball over like a mortar shot. It was aimed in Arthur’s general direction, loose enough that the explosion should catch him at least a little. She didn’t mind if it didn’t; it was just a diversion. As the fireball sailed through the air, her shadows were moving along the ground. Little lines zig-zagging across the floor, creating a pattern of branches as they approached. The moment they touched Arthur’s foot, they would spring from the ground and entangle his leg, and in an instant, that speed he was so excited to show off would be gone.

|

Post by TimePuppy on Jan 26, 2020 20:06:26 GMT
Arthur's ploy failed and the second fireball came from above. A fairly simple mortar shot, nothing Arthur couldn't intercept with a wall. The explosion ruined a large part of the ice construct, making Arthur happy he intercepted it instead of dodging. Then he suddenly lost his footing. Looking down, he saw darkness clinging to his leg. Clever. The remains of the wall turned into a blade and cut him free from the dark thread. Now he knew he needed to be careful about stealthy shadow attacks. Well, he could kill two birds with one stone now.
He hopped up to his feet and created a pair of frozen wings. He took to the sky, escaping sneaking shadows and giving him the ability to see behind Alexis's cover. "Your castle walls are useless, little queen." Creating 4 bladed disks, dulled and thickened so they would hurt instead of kill, and sent them spinning towards Alexis, one at calf height, another at head height, and two more similarly positioned but further from the cover in case she tried jumping away from it to dodge the first two.

Alexis leaped over her wall the moment she felt her tendrils get hold on Arthur, but before her next attack was prepared, he was already freed and diving right for her. Two frisbees were headed right for her, two others going unnoticed on the sides. A snap decision drove her hand up and a massive plume of fire came from her palm. The disk aimed at her head was vaporized and it carried on towards Arthur. The other disk continued unimpeded until it embedded itself in her tibia. She let out a hiss through her teeth and fell back against the wall, supported while she commanded the shadows once more. The ice disk was yanked out and thrown away and the wound wrapped in bandages of blackness within a second, but she had no time to rest.
She launched another flurry of small fireballs and rolled to the side, covering herself to reposition in the center of the stage. With him flying, cover didn’t matter. She needed room to move. Her leg ached, but she could force movement long enough to win. Besides, if her plan worked, he’d be more limited in transportation too in a minute. Mixed in with her regular small fireballs were a few blazing with far greater heat, aimed at the tips of his wings. Hot enough to turn ice into steam, hopefully with enough force to crack apart the whole structure. She loved it when people provided stuff to blow up. Made it so much easier to bring them down.

Alright, scored a hit. His vantage point gave him a good advantage. She really could run, but couldn't hide. Her retaliation was swift however. A barrage of small fireballs flew toward him again. Looks like she didn't learn her lesson last time. He folded his wings before him, he blocked the fireballs like last time. Or so he thought. The red hot balls were stronger than the last barrage, melting holes in both wings and opening gaps just big enough for a few of the regular balls to fly through. Arthur shielded his face with his arms to minimize the damage, but this left him with holes in his coat and quite literally searing pain on his arms.
Anger welled up inside him. He wanted to rush her and beat her down now. No... Dammit, he fell for a trick. He was gonna do those himself. He couldn't let himself rush it. He had to remain composed for now.
The remains of his wings moved and reconstituted themselves into a platform to stop his fall. "Nice shot, but I'm not going down just yet." He jumped from the platform, sending it down toward Alexis while remaking a pair off wings. There was another frostball surprise hidden behind it in case she got cocky now. And it was followed by a barrage of ice shards raining down around that spot to catch her escaping.

“Good, I prefer it when they struggle.” Alexis fired off another close-range plume of flame, aimed to catch Arthur, but only striking the platform he had just thrown at her. She was turning to follow when the frostball flew through and struck her. Spikes of cold stabbed through the air, turning it immediately into ice. Alexis stared in shock for a moment, feeling nearly gone in her lower body. She was halfway embedded in ice, trapped for Arthur’s barrage. She spent mana again shielding herself, a plume of flame melting the raining ice shards. Arthur was wearing her down. She could keep going a while yet, but if he kept this up, he’d eventually slip something through. Luckily, he was finally within range of something that didn’t cost. She grabbed her whip from her hip and lashed out, seeking to dig its barbs into his shoulder. Shadows expanded in the ice, trying to break her out with as little mana as possible.

Arthur's frostball landed this time. It was almost disappointing really. He was hoping she'd dodge again, establish a pattern, but she was caught now. This would've presented an excellent opportunity to deal with her more easily... had she not pulled out her whip before he got out of her reach. The whips cutting barbs lashed against his shoulder, holding him in place. An inexperienced fighter would usually be frightened at this point and try to pull back. Sometimes that would result in opening yourself up to the enemy, but in this specific case it the barbs would just tear at your flesh assuming the whip even let you move away.
Arthur was an experienced fighter. Experienced enough to charge in, instead. Whips lost effectiveness at close range. It was sooner than he'd hoped and he didn't have the surprise he was building up, but this was the best choice now. Her magic was still dangerous, but that's where Arthur's speed came in.
First, a frost infused body blow. Its effect, were it successful, would be an even more painful frostball. Second, he'd try to dash behind her and do a frost wrap kick to her side. Finally, if her whip was still connected to him, he'd try to use it to choke her out.

Got it. Alexis’ whip’s barbs dug into Arthur’s shoulder and he came charging all on his own. “Good. No more running.” She smiled and her hands rose in the pose that Dan taught her. Her hand snapped out when Arthur was within range. It was a light punch, a snappy flicker jab. Fast, but weak, not enough to knock Arthur’s head back if it hit. What might knock him back a little was the explosion cast upon impact, a blast of fire greater than any she had used so far, a point-blank fireball that spilled over onto herself, shaken off like a stiff breeze.
What she couldn’t shake off was Arthur’s rapid combo. Her ribs creaked where his fist struck her and the ice burst out over her again, stiffening her so she couldn’t avoid the next strike. It was all she could do to get the whip free, flicking it off just as his shin cut into her ribs on the other side. Before her fireball was fully dissipated, she was sprawled on the ground, gripping her sides.
“It’s hard to see through that fireball she threw out, but it looks like Alexis is down! Yes, the ref’s starting the count!” “The Frost Wolf has shown his fangs at close range, yes. While Alexis remains more fragile, she shows new tricks to punish those who come near! I find myself more enthralled than ever with her mayhem! How many people can explode foes with a punch? Not enough! More explosions! More carnage! Hahahaha! Rise and strike him again!” Ragnaros yelled with glee as Alexis grit her teeth and rose to her hands and knees. She definitely had at least one broken rib, but thankfully, all of them were bruised badly enough she couldn’t tell which. Count was only at three. She had time. How was Arthur doing after that exchange?
