Becky had lost interest. There was something new and strange now. She noticed that the plates were gone and went in search of them to the kitchen. She found them quickly in the sink and put two and two together quickly. They used the little fake waterfall maker to make the things they ate food off of clean so they could use them again. They must wash everything in there, was her next logical leap. She would help! She cast about for dirty objects in the room. She wandered back to the front door. Shoes! Those were dirty! She grabbed up every shoe she found and ran back to the kitchen. Into the sink she tossed them before smiling up at Arthur. She did it!

While the girl explored the sink, Arthur finally finished his dinner. When he saw her bringing in shoes, he had to chuckle. He looked at the girl and shook his head while taking out the shoes. Then he pointed at the plate and cutlery he left at the table.

Just when she thought she understood something, reality betrayed her. Was it only for disks and pointy things? She didn't get it. She just sighed and went back to the table. Her hair went pitch black again and strands reached out to grab everything on the table at once. She walked gracefully back into the kitchen with everything wrapped up in her hair, setting it with something approaching gentleness in the sink. She looked up to Arthur for signs of approval or anger.

Arthur smiled and pat the girl on the head. "Good job," he said. He also added a thumbs up for good measure. Then he gave her the shoes she put in the sink before and gestured towards the door. Then he turned to the dished and started washing them. If he didn't do it now, he would probably be too lazy later. While he did this, Hazel went back to her show and Loveline went up to her room.

Becky beamed when Arthur patted her head and nuzzled him for a second before wandering off. She walked away to glance into rooms again, finally coming across one she hadn't been into. She walked into Hazel's room and looked around, finding a big wooden frame of strange little rectangles. She grabbed a few and found they were like a strange sort of box full of leaves. The leaves were marked all over with black marks. She put them back. They were weird enough to be interesting, but the letters didn't mean anything.
She grabbed some lower ones to see if they were any different. To her surprise, they were very different. In addition to the marks, pink in this one, there was a picture of a fairy sniffing a flower bigger than her whole body. Becky's eyes widened and she turned the page. The fairy was exiting her house, which was a mushroom. Becky wanted to live in a mushroom. Nothing can eat you if you're in a mushroom. She turned the page again and the fairy was sheltering herself from rain with a leaf. Becky had done this many times. This fairy was extremely relatable.

It took Arthur only a few minutes to finish washing up. He went to the living room to rejoin the girls, except when he got there only Hazel was present. Where could the girl have gone? She didn't leave the house, did she? No, he didn't hear the door opening.
Since he saw no reason for her to leave through a window, Arthur searched the house. It didn't take too long to find her and he was awestruck when he did. She was reading! Well, looking at pictures. It was kinda cute. Unfortunately, since they couldn't really communicate through words, Arthur couldn't do much except sit on hazel's bed and awkwardly stay there until the girl moved on or wanted something from him.

Becky looked up when Arthur entered the room. She looked from him to the symbols on the page. Were they something he could interpret for her? She picked the book up and plopped it in his lap, jumping up onto the bed beside him. "Eh?" She asked, pointing at the page. She couldn't understand him completely, but she would take more from tone and gestures than flat text.

"You want me to read to you? Alright, I guess." He wasn't sure how this would turn out, but Arthur took the book and started reading. He did his best to put feelings into his voice, but even more he tried using his hands as puppets to show what the characters were doing. Needless to say, it wasn't that easy. But very soon he started feeling what the characters were supposed to be feeling, he could hear the characters talking and when he looked up for a second, he noticed that the pictures from the book actually escaped into real life. The room shifted into fields, and mushroom patches, and woods as the story progressed. Characters moved around and talked as if they were real.
Loveline had heard them talking because Arthur accidentally left the door ajar when he went in so she decided to check out what was happening. And when she saw her dad pitifully trying to depict the story, she had to use her illusions to show the girl what was really going on. So she watched them and kept bringing the story to life while Arthur kept reading. It was the least she could do. To stop her father from embarrassing himself, that is.

Becky sat silently and watched Arthur in awe. It only increased when the illusions kicked in. She absorbed their emotions through their movement, understood their relationships through tone and gesture. When it ended, she clapped, dazzled by the performance. She needed to learn how to do that. It was magical. She hugged Arthur tight, as rough as ever. "Hey, what time is it?" A deep voice whispered in Loveline's ear. "This is charming, but I have an appointment, let's see, 8 years ago in Canada."

Chills went down Loveline's spine. She spun around quickly and shoved the mysterious intruder away. Seeing it was 'only' MoG, she let out a sigh of relief. With him, she could at least be moderately confident he wasn't gonna kill someone for no reason.
"You almost gave me a bloody heart attack!" Loveline said. "Dad, what time is it?" She called out.
"A few minutes from midnight. Why?" It took Arthur a few moments to realize what this meant. "Oh..."

"Good, I'm just in time!" A leash appeared in the Master's hand, ending around Becky's neck. She let out a choked scream and clutched Arthur, but she was yanked back harshly and toppled off the bed. "Thanks for looking after her. How was your day?" He asked, ignoring Becky's thrashing. Despite his light weight, she couldn't seem to pull him around. The leash put him entirely in control.

Arthur leapt up almost instantly. "We had a deal, Mog." He gripped the cord of the leash. "I took care of her. She's off the leash." Technically, she was off the leash at exactly midnight. Did Mog come here specifically to prevent that? Even if he wanted to add challenge to the game, something like this would be cheating!

"And she is. I'm taking her elsewhere and setting her free. The question is if I'll do it in your timeline or not, and even where and when if I do. I could put her on Mars 3.5 billion years ago, back when it had life. Or 80 years before you're born, just long enough for her to be certainly dead before you're alive. So many possibilities. I don't think I'll change my original plan though!" The Master scratched his chin. "I suppose I'll have to give her the power to read and speak at least one language..." The Master grabbed Becky's hair and pulled her head back to shove a syringe into her forehead without a moment's hesitation.
Becky's mind was one where thought was not to words. Thought was just thought. The sudden influx of knowledge did not change that, but it gave her words to think of. Hundreds of them. Thousands. She screamed in agony as her entire mind was overhauled to handle language, something forgotten an eternity ago. She curled into a fetal position. "D...don't fight him." Her tongue twisted to form full words by pure instinct, something buried long ago rising to the surface in a desperate grab.
She just needed to tell Arthur not to attack MOG. She couldn't let him die. He was good. He was strong. But she had seen what MOG could do. He had destroyed civilizations. He had driven universal conquerors to suicide. He had cheated kings of their thrones and crowned jesters. He had moved stars in the sky. And all of it was just for fun. He stood over her, that grey and twisted thing of her nightmares, tusks wildly jutting from his jaws. The galaxies in his eyes twinkled mockingly at Arthur. Yes, stop me. They said. I would like to see you try.

Arthur's shoulder shook with rage. It wasn't the words. The point was never for her to stay with Arthur, so he couldn't get angry over that. It was the way he treated her even now that she was free! But Arthur knew attacking him right now wouldn't end well for anyone. He took a deep breath.
"Fine. That's okay. As long as she gets to live how she wants to, without you pulling strings. You know, a mostly normal life. Let her be happy." That was the whole point of this event. Arthur looked at the girl and smiled. "And if we do somehow meet again, we should hang out. Maybe I can even find out your name finally."
In the background, Loveline was shaking her head. She was in her magical girl form, ready to beat up a god. But seeing as her dad decided it wouldn't be a good idea, she went back to her normal form. She wasn't going to do anything stupid. Not yet at least.

"Name? Right, she'll need that too." The Master pulled a smartphone from his pocket and opened up the internet. "Random name generator... no... no... oh, I like it. You are now Becky Lloyd!" He prodded Becky's forehead. Becky stared past the finger. Words meant things now, but stringing them together just made her head hurt. Hang out? What did that mean? She didn't have time to puzzle it out before MOG tugged her to her feet. "Don't worry, I'll organize a playdate! See you soon, Arthur. Or rather you'll see me."
He and Becky vanished, the only noise the wind rushing to fill the space they no longer occupied. The day was over, Becky taken to an unknown time and place. All that remained was a card that declared "You win!", depicting a happy little Arthur with his daughters, confetti and fireworks overhead. Becky was conspicuously absent.

Arthur glared at the master of games until he disappeared and took the girl, Becky, with him. Arthur shook his head, went over to Hazel's bed and crashing into it with a sigh. Hazel, who watched the whole thing while hiding behind a corner, went up to her dad. "Are you okay, dad?""Yep, just a little tired. Taking care of someone who can't understand you at all is super exhausting."Hazel smiled and wiggled into her bed as well. Loveline rolled her eyes and picked up the card MoG left. She took it over to Arthur who examined it for a second and sighed again. He dropped it into a pocket dimension and Loveline jumped on top of him. Then she rolled to the side opposite Hazel and brought the covers up over them. "Oh? It's been a while since we all shared a bed. What's going on?" Arthur asked. "Nothing. I'm just too lazy to go to my own room." Loveline said. "And this is my bed." Hazel added. "Fine, fine. Then we know what this mean. Family cuddles!" Arthur said and hugged Hazel. "I prefer family tickles!" Loveline started tickling Arthur. After a minute of laughter, Arthur finally managed to wiggle around and return tickle fire only to be blindsided by Hazel. The tickle war lasted for a few minutes before exhaustion took over Love and Hazel and they demanded a ceasefire. They both fell asleep in a mater of seconds. Smiling to himself, Arthur used a chunk of ice to turn off the lights and started thinking about what kind of life the girl would have no that she was free. A few minutes later, Arthur joined his daughters in dreamland. --THE END--
