"Yo, ho, fiddle dee dee, being a pirate is alright with me!" Ariana sung a song taught to her by Eve as she splashed her hand in the water. She wasn't really sure how she got to this little island, but it smelled like adventure! Tiny and coated in fog, the island had to have something special about it. Maybe she had to dig for it! Ariana picked up a stone from the shallow water by the island (the deeper stuff ten feet out seemed really scary for some reason, even to the fearless Ariana) and started scratching at the black rock of the island. This would take a while, but she didn't mind! Adventure was supposed to be hard work!
Loveline watched the stone she threw skip across the surface of the lake. It touched the surface of the water nine times and when it was supposed to connect again, it simply disappeared. It could not have sunk below the surface because there were no ripples coming from where it would have landed. Loveline tried again and the same thing happened. That was strange. Maybe she should try again on the other side of this freaky island.
It took half a minute at most to reach the other side and there Loveline saw a familiar figure scratching a black rock with a smaller stone. "You! What are you doing here!" She was filled with unexplainable rage, not that she tried to figure out its origin in the first place. All Love wanted to do was kill the small girl that was in front of her, her reason did not matter.
"Gem of Garnet, I promise to purify the world of corruption!
Gem of Garnet, I swear to bring light to those lost in darkness!
Gem of Garnet, unleash my potential and bring out my true power! Let me fight back against those who threaten the ones I love!
Gem of Garnet, I reveal my true form!
I am the warrior of harmony, Garnet Rainbow!"
In Loveline's place stood a girl in her teens, wearing a black-and-red gothic lolita dress and a red cape. Her hair was shorter but still brown with several streaks of red in her bangs. "Eeeee, I'm so giddy!" Garnet Rainbow twirled her sniper-scythe around in excitement. "I never thought I'd be this excited about killing, well, anyone! Come on, make this fun!" She kicked off the ground towards Ariana, her scythe poised above her head ready to swoop down and cut through Ariana's pretty little neck.
Ariana didn't hear Loveline's approach over her attempt to dig into the center of the island. It was only when Loveline yelled that she looked up. Oh hey, it was Loveline! Loveline was a great friend, and pretty and nice too. But what was she doing here? This was Ariana's island! Love had to leave! Ariana stood and tossed the rock aside, pulling a smaller, bluer stone from her pants pocket. Her transformation was far quicker than Love's, simply turning to ice and growing. The ice shattered away to reveal a much taller, more muscular girl in a sailor uniform.
With the time spared by her swift transformation, she had enough time to see the attack coming and fall back, only her hat getting struck. It fell in two cleanly carved pieces on the stony ground. "Hey! First you invade my island, now you're ruining my stuff! We're not friends anymore!" An anchor formed from ice in her hands and she used her already low position to spin and sweep the anchor at Love's feet with the intent of knocking her flat. The ground beneath her feet froze to let her spin faster. If she succeded in knocking Love down, she'd drop the anchor on her scythe arm. That'd show her to try decapitating an adventurer!
Loveline missed. She turned around quickly to try again, but Ariana's anchor struck her shin and Loveline felt the bone breaking as she fell to the ground. She rolled to the side to avoid losing her arm too and used her scythe to get up.
"I didn't want to be your friend anyway, so nyah!" Loveline stuck out her tongue and pulled her eyelid down. Using her healthy leg and the scythe, she jumped into the air and started floating there. "Pattern 42 : Shower Magnolia! Double!" Love fired two colorful bullets into the air and they exploded, producing twenty white sparks of energy and one yellow one each. The white sparks fell straight down and shouldn't be too difficult for Ariana to dodge or even block. However, the two yellow ones homed in on Ariana's kneecaps.
Ariana giggled at the horrific crunch she heard when Love's leg was struck. "Hey Love! Your leg is a butt, and your face will be even more of one in a second! Why?" She taunted as she flew up, ducking around each shot and firing a blast of cold to stop one of the yellow blasts. She took the other to her knee and grit her teeth, tears in her eyes. It was worth it for her punchline. "Because they have CRACKS in them!" She rocketed past Love and dropped her anchor right at her cute little face.
Loveline raised her sniper-scythe to protect herself from the falling anchor. Unfortunately, its weight kept pushing her down towards the black water. She angled her scythe and used it to push away from the anchor just before she reached the surface of water. "Your jokes suck almost as much as you do at fighting!"
Loveline pointed her sniper down and stood on the blade. "Patter 63: Boom Boom Dandelion! Concentrate!" The exit of the sniper barrel exploded several times in a row, propelling Loveline up at incredible speeds with every boom. When she got close to Ariana, she stopped boosting herself up like that and flew away from her. "Now, let me show you my super duper secret move! That is, if you can see it coming! Pattern 30: Poinsettia Flash!" Loveline fired two shiny red bullets at Ariana. When they got close to her, they would explode into white light and hopefully blind her.
Using the expected blindness, Loveline flew towards Ariana and aimed the pointy end of her scythe at her stomach. Then she would kick Ariana down into the water. It was a foolproof plan! "Your island belongs to me now!"
Ariana smiled when the anchor struck the water. "So they're great?" Her grin faltered when the bolts flew right at her. She dropped, but it didn't help when they blasted light brighter than the sun right down into her eyes. She covered her eyes with one arm and fired off cold in random directions, none apparently Love's. She felt cold pain thrust through her abdomen and in the next second the warm wetness of blood. Tears came to her eyes and she let out a choked little yelp before Love punted her down. She held her stomach, trying to stop the bleeding like Warden taught her, when she came to a sudden stop on the ice her anchor had been spreading.
She stood up shakily, feeling pale. Her busted knee barely held, so she hovered an inch off the ground. Did Love cut her guts? She didn't want to look down and find out for sure. She felt like she was gonna throw up all over, but she held it in for now. Her plan was coming together. Love's range advantage on her was about to change. She could feel the water moving beneath her feet, all of it hers to command. And it was fresh water, extra easy to move. A bloody fist left her stomach to smash a hole in the ice. The water underneath stirred at her command. She swept her hand up, fingers curled into little claw shapes, and water droplets exploded free in a widening cone, each and every one freezing into a needle, deadly points all seeking to melt in Love's warm body.
Faced with the torrent of death coming at her, Loveline started spinning her sniper scythe as fast as she could. The frozen needles were shattered by the scythe and Loveline smirked. She had this! Until some of them hit her hand. The scythe stopped spinning and the remaining needles hit Loveline's arms, legs and some even ended up in her stomach. Losing her concentration completely, she started falling towards the water again. Thinking quickly, she used Boom Boom Dandelion to push herself forward and land, just barely, on the shore.
Some of the needles sticking out of her broke, some pulled her skin to create proper wounds and her previously broken leg certainly didn't get any better from that. She couldn't survive for long in the state she was in now. That's okay. She focused on her own body. The needles starting falling out of her body, the holes closed themselves and her shin bones readjusted. The amount of self-reparation she could do like this was limited so she couldn't do it that often. Furthermore, it meant she was open to attacks.
Ariana's attack wasn't as effective as she hoped. She guessed needles weren't really all that dangerous. An anchor started to form in her hands as Love tumbled from the sky. At least it did that much, but Love was still in better shape than her, painting the ice like a cherry snowcone with her leaking stomach wound. Ariana charged while she attempted to heal, holding the anchor by the chain and spinning it. Before she reached Love, she pummeled a hole through her ice on the shore right before love. She lunged with the chain stretched between her hands to wrap it around Love's neck, seeking to get it good and tight so she could toss her in the water. Like the mafia! "Get. Off. My. ISLAND!" She roared as she prepared to drown her friend in the black waters of a mystery island.
Loveline shielded her face from the ice fragments. Ariana had made a mistake when she broke that ice. Her chain wrapped around Loveline's neck, but the arm she used was in the way preventing her from getting choked. She struggled, kicked and punched with her free arm. But to no avail. Ariana was just too physically strong.
"Let me go! I can't kill you like this!" When Ariana lifted her up, she stopped struggling. She wasn't getting anywhere with that. "There's only one thing I can do now. So... So..." Then Ariana threw her. "It's time to kick the difficulty up to I N S A N I T Y!" Loveline's eye color started shifting between all the colors of the rainbow and her cape turned into wing-like rods with colorful gems hanging off of them. She exploded in a shower of color and reformed next to her sniper scythe. When she grabbed it, the end of the barrel started glowing.
"Barrier setup." Garnet Rainbow spoke in a monotone voice. She fired twice. Shining bullets split into four colorful orbs each. One set flew into the air, the other onto the ground and they were connected by thin lines forming a cube. "Setup complete. Prepare to die."
Ariana threw Love with a "HAH!" She watched her decent with a wide grin, waiting for a satisfying splash. She felt robbed when instead of a splash of water, she got a sprinkle of sparkles. "Hey! Don't blow up! You can't do that, it's bullshit!" She stared out at the water for a second before realizing the cube forming around her. "HEY!" She punched the wall of the cube, finding it impenetrable. "Stop talking like a robot, you weirdo! You are such a JERK!" Ariana stomped, blasting a hole in the rock, exposing the water underneath. "Just try and shoot me! It'll go even worse than last time!"
"Full power pattern." As if obeying her still monotone voice, the jewels on Loveline's wings, fourteen of them in total, detached themselves and formed a ring behind her. They all turned into magic circles of various color. "Vivid Lotus Shower."
Streams of colorful bullets started coming out of the circles. Each circle fired two lines of bullets that wound around each other like a DNA helix. They weren't aimed at Ariana. Not directly at least. Their purpose was the cover as much space as possible. Still, with good enough timing, Ariana could move between the bullets if she needed to. Then Loveline aimed her sniper at her and fired a giant bright laser. It was a move that would bring certain death. To either one of them. If Ariana could move around quickly enough or even survive getting hit, she just needed to last 6 seconds. After that point, Garnet Rainbow would completely run out of magic and fall unconscious down to the ground in her child form.
Ariana just glowered when the bullets began to fly. One struck her in the back of the thigh, blistering a hole in her flesh. "ARGH!" She slipped down, panting. "Feh... stupid Love." She saw the glow of Loveline's barrel and stood, spreading her arms. As light danced around her, Ariana summoned the sea. The water flew up around her, reflecting the lights all around her. It swirled in a sheet, then in a flash, it was frozen, a cocoon of ice. Little bullets blew off chunks and left dents. But Loveline's ultimate blast was its real test.
The brilliant light reflected, glaring, from her icy armor. The light dyed all at once when Love's power gave out, leaving only a single figure standing. Ariana's chest bubbled, a hole seared in it, but the ice armor had defended her enough to let her live. "You can't get between me and adventure." She clambered up the slope she made when she stomped earlier. "Now... get off my island." Ariana reached down to grab Loveline by the leg and toss her into the distance.
Loveline's limp body soared through the air and landed in the water with a splash. As her body felt water rushing into her lungs, she woke up, surrounded by darkness. It took her a few moments to realize that she wasn't covered in water, but merely a duvet. Her little sister lay next to her, her sleep undisturbed by Loveline's restlessness. If only she knew the dangers Loveline faced in her dream! Actually... What did she face? All she could remember was the drowning. For some reason she thought that Ariana might be able to help her remember her dream. Besides, it's been so long since she last saw Ariana. Maybe she should contact her. Ah well, it's late now. Maybe in the morning. Loveline relaxed and sank back into the land of dreams, any hints of what she dreamt before fading from memory. She would find that strange once she woke up properly. Even something seemingly so unimportant should be easy for her perfect memory to remember. How curious.
Ariana cheered when Love vanished below the waves. The island was hers! All hers! The mist grew thicker and thicker as she staggered back to the center of the island, form shattering to leave her as a little girl once more. She knelt to dig in the black stone once more, whistling her little victory tune as everything she fought for faded. Tears soaked her as much as blood by the time she awoke.
Warden found himself shaken by the young girl sleeping besides him. "Warden! I'm not bad, right?" Warden looked at her with confusion. "No, of course not. Did you have a nightmare?" Ariana nodded, then shook her head. "I don't know. I just feel like a jerk." Warden sighed and hugged her. Her sobs started and stopped, and she was asleep again in his arms. He laid her down gently and sat back up in his chair. "Don't dream this time, Ariana. Don't dream." He sighed as the night wore on into eternity.
