"I merely overestimated the compressive strength of reinforced concrete. It is a mistake any being could make." Theo huffed. Dan saw Soon forming the energy balls and jumped back just in time to avoid being smashed flat by the monster's attack. He watched her intently as she fired off the lasers, but his gaze turned sickly at her words. "What is wrong with you!? I'm not sure this thing can even comprehend that what it's doing is wrong!" Dan realized it was too early to complain about the ethics of his teammate when the creature didn't fall. Its remaining tentacles could still push it forward, letting its tentacles swing. It smashed Dan out of the way again and gurgled at Soon, bubbles frothing from his jaws as it tried to slap her from the air. Swallower was behind her, far too slow moving to intervene.

"Any being but a God" she replied while looking at Theo with a grin. The creature, however, wasn't done yet, Soon braced herself as one of the tentacles was swung at her, she did a cross guard with her hands attempting to receive the blow head on. -"BIOKINESIS!" She claimed as the blow sent her flying several meters behind, Soon's body had been reinforced by the biokinesis, but clearly that wasn't enough, as soon looked baffled at both of her arms completely shattered, hanging just by the skin. "Are you fucking kidding me? I still need my arms you asshole! look at this! I can do the bloody helicopter with it!"-she said as she waved half of her left arm around, The Biokinesis began to repair the broken bones, but Soon was a lot angrier than hurt.
It would seem the pain made Soon forget about Theo's words, or maybe she did not care about being subtle, cause she began to create a second set of lights, only this time she merged them into a larger one, this technique was seemingly more difficult, as Soon looked far more concentrated than before, the effects, in turn, would be pretty much the same, only the blast would cover an even bigger area, with both hands, she aimed forward, releasing a blast of light many times the size of the previous one, if the earlier ones were akin to light bullets, this would be the equivalent of a hand cannon
"LIGHT OF VEGA!!!"-She shouted as the light burst was released, its color changed from a bright yellow into a crimson red, the beam being as thick as a basketball, this was a powerful offensive attack designed to kill in a single go, but Soon aimed not with the intention to kill, but rather to intimidate the creature into submission, if the monster had even a slight sense of self-preservation, it would notice Soon went easy on it.

Increasing the bore of the laser allowed it to consume greater portions of the tentacles holding the creature up and it finally collapsed onto its rubbery stomach. It finally seemed to take notice of its injuries, lurching like a seal away from Soon. "Hey! You get back here!" Dan yelled, raising a fist. Before he could attack, he sighed and lowered his arm. "I guess it's done fighting." He seemed to deflate as the creature wiggled over the rubble, bending his spine to rub his sore arms. "Is it even sapient? If not, we might as well let it go." He was watching Soon to make sure she didn't do anything insane after her vicious behavior before. "Perhaps we can discover information about this creature if we politely ask him." The Swallower of worlds pointed at the sheriff, still peaking out from behind a smashed wall.

"Ah yes, politely" Soon replied to dan as she shot at one of the sheriff's legs with a beam of light, it would be incredibly hard to dodge the laser, but in the rare event he managed to do so, Soon would keep making the monster dance left and right
"Do you realize how badly I've been treated here on Greenwater you pathetic excuse of a sheriff? The water in the shower was disgusting, I was shot to near death and both of my arms were broken, I should blow your brains out right now but fortunately for your sorry ass, you have intel we need! now, we can do this the easy way and have you tell us everything, in which case I will proceed to give you a painless death, OR we can do this the hard way, and you shall come to know why people should fear the light far more than the dark."
Soon wasn't getting a no for an answer, she might be kind to kids, but a monster like that would get no compassion from him, Soon got even closer to the sheriff as she looked at Dan and Theo to see if they were coming as well.
"Let's start with the creature, tell me everything you know about it, then we can talk about that object you gave me earlier"
It was at that moment when Soon remembered she was forgetting a very important thing: the kid! that's what they came for in the first place!
"Dan! I totally forgot about the kid, can you check on him? it would be bad if our little friend Theo injured him with his trashing."

Soon's searing laser easily bored through the sheriff's thigh, dropping him with a scream. He lifted his rifle, but Dan stepped in front of the barrel just as he pulled the trigger. Dan flicked a flattened bullet off his chest and kicked the rifle out of the sheriff's hands. "Owwww..." He complained, rubbing the bruise as he picked his way over the rubble. "I would ask you not to slay or cause inordinate harm to a prisoner of the HWIC." Theo also stepped in front of the psychic, this time protecting the fish-folk instead of her.
"I don't know anything about the Sea Monks! The boss called them up from the depths, along with all sorts of weird stuff. They don't do much when he's not commanding them. Just kinda sit there. Honestly, I didn't think anything could hurt them, but I always did hear the Musashis were something else." A grin showed that his teeth were razor-sharp like a shark's. "Ah, your leader. What sort of being is he?" Theo's question was met with a shrug. "Another monster. Beautiful one too. Brought the cult to us from the depths. Showed us the way to gray the waters, to shed limited, landlocked forms for eternal bodies of the sea! Life should have never left the water, and we are the lucky ones who will return!"
Across the room, Dan knelt in front of Harold. The two just looked at each other for a while. Dan saw sweat and pimples and the scared eyes of a teenager far from home. Harold saw a man coming down from a battle high, eyes still wild, blood barely showing where bullets had struck Dan and managed to cut his skin. Dan sighed and reached out for the handcuffs with both hands. "Just don't pull any funny business, okay?" With a sharp yank, he tore the chain in half. "I have the key, you showoff!" The sheriff yelled back at him. Dan looked bewildered for a second before straightening his shirt. "I was just reminding him I could pull him apart with my bare hands." Dan sounded supremely unconvinced of this, and Harold even suppressed a giggle.

"You are such a killjoy...lasers cauterize as they pierce ok?, he will live as long as I don't aim at the vitals" Soon replied to the demon God, she really wasn't a fan of him, as the Musashi had encounters with demons on a daily basis, and the five rings were top demon slayers of the clan, she knew Theo wasn't really doing anything wrong, but she still didn't feel comfortable next to the creature...demons were always scheming something, always plotting...he did say he was the swallower of worlds so, who can even trust some entity like that? Soon then shifted her focus towards the sheriff.
Listening to what it had to say just made her realize how crazy this cult was, and just how much she missed being home. Dan then came out with the boy, she suddenly felt a lot more relieved to see him still in good conditions, she gave him a good look trying to see if he was injured but nothing was apparent.
"Hey, you ok? I couldn't leave you just like that, sorry it took me this long to get to you" the esper then turned her attention back to the sheriff as she addressed him.
"Okay, look, you might want to live the rest of your days as sushi, and I'm perfectly fine with that, but before you say any more stupid things i want to know some other stuff. That thing you gave me, what is it really?"
Soon pulled once again the strange plate as she kept talking, just in case the monster needed to refresh its memory.
"Second, what do you want with the kid?"
This was an obvious follow-up question, as it was clear they needed the child for something, they clearly refused to harm him, but to what purpose? those monsters weren't exactly nice guys. Soon hovered next to Theo just to show the artifact to him.
"You know, if I had any means of contacting my clan I could send the artifact to have it examined, unfortunately, I don't have any sort of communicator available, and I know time is of the essence, I think your people are the best choice for now"
Soon had been extremely careless for this mission, abandoning the Musashi lands without her virtual machine nor her Take-Mikazuchi proved to be a fatal mistake, without the armor she was completely cut off from her clan, and without her blade light attacks just used a ton of energy, the backpack from the HWIC was all she could count on for the moment, and God how dearly she treasured it!

"The pass is just what I said it was! We have no beef with the Musashi and we wanted to keep it that way! We have enough problems, with the Tongues poking around and Huntsman slaughtering cults across the country. It's his fault you got involved at all." The sheriff jabbed a finger at Dan. "All we wanted was that kid of yours. We didn't care about nothing else. Honest. Not even the Tongue kid. We were hoping to get him out of town with you." He sighed and his head rolled back. "Just this town's luck. Now we got everybody mad at us."
"What do you want with my son!?" Dan called from the sheriff's desk. "Boss doesn't want me telling that. And if she gets any funny ideas about torture, I think I can clam up long enough for the rest of the town to get here with every sea monk in the ocean!" The sheriff said without hesitation. Dan just glared and focused on searching the desk until he found a set of keys. A few tries and the handcuffs fell away from Harold's wrist.
"I see. It appears he has relinquished all the information he is willing to at this time. I shall take him and Harold to the ship to remain in our custody." Theo took the captives in his hands and they sank into darkness without a whisper. "That just looks creepy when you're not taking the trip." Dan looked away from where the demon god vanished to the odd badge that Soon was hovering about. This would allow him to leave, just like that? He looked up. The clouds had indeed parted overhead. He could hear the rain falling just 20 feet away, but he stood dry next to the badge. I could take Qiang and go home. He thought, before looking back at the unconcious fishman he had just been fighting. He couldn't help a smile. "Smash that thing. They'll know we're coming by the rain stopping."

Soon couldn't help but grin when she heard the words of the Fishman, it sounded like the cult was already having enough troubles as it was.
"Huntsman eh? as in THE huntsman? I have never met him in person, but he sounds lovely...you are wrong though, I did not come here for Dan, I came because of a premonition of my own"
Soon looked at Dan a bit surprised as she heard his words, he would rather stay?! smashing the artifact was also quite a statement considering the badge was the only way out.
"You sure about that Dan? ah fine, I could destroy it or just bury it somewhere, it really feels wrong to break it...you know what? do what you wish with it, I cannot leave here without wiping them out anyway"
The esper grabbed the badge and handed it over to Dan, whatever he decided to do with it would be fine, she admired his resolve, Soon looked then at Theo, she wondered what was he gonna do now
"So, are you taking this guy as a hostage? or are we moving to the church? I'm asking since you seem to be kinda touchy about me acting on my own. I'm fine waiting for you here, though I would rather go and wreck them for good, don't you agree Dan?"
Soon was impatient, knowing there were more than one of those tentacle creatures meant big trouble, as long as they weren't commanded by telepaths Soon was OK with letting those live, those creatures weren't probably man-eaters so letting them live off fish was fine, Soon was more interested in hunting espers than anything else.

"Huntsman is a mass-murdering psychopath who kills for pleasure." Dan sneered. His fists involuntarily clenched and he glanced around like the vicious bag of flesh might be perched on a ruined wall already. Abijah AND Huntsman might show up here? This was the worst town. He caught the badge and examined it closer. "On second thought, maybe just leave it here. Destroying it might make it blow up or something." He dropped it onto the desk and leaned on it to wait for Theo. Just a second later, he appeared again just outside.
"I have returned. I suppose that the church was our next destination. We should approach it before our position is beset upon." Theo took Dan and Soon in his hands and they slipped through darkness again, coming up uphill from the church. Its white walls looked like bone in the sickly light of the storm. A bell made green by age slowly rocked in a rickety tower over the church. Through murky blue windows, shapes could be seen moving, echoed outside by armed townsfolk and two sea monks hulking outside the church doors. "Looks like they're expecting us." Dan squatted, looking like a vulture ready to swoop. "I say we bypass the door entirely. Kick right through a window. Or even..." He looked up at the bell. "Come crashing in from above."

Soon got weirded out seeing Dan react like that, it seemed like he had some pending business with Huntsman as well, she had no part in that so she stood out of the topic.
"Whoa ok I get it, he's a bad guy...leaving the artifact there is for the best I think, if things go wrong here we can always bail out."
The demon god returned as fast as he left, that was some impressive travel speed for sure, the esper just tried not to gag as he took them into the darkness one more time, the moment they arrived at the church Soon finally managed to breathe again, panting as her knees went down on the floor.
"Ugh oh god, I hate traveling with you, next time I'm gonna need a paper bag"
She looked at the building as Dan analyzed ways to get inside, for Soon the bell was the best entrance point, getting the high ground was always better, she slowly stood up as she regained her normal condition, she replied to Dan as he mentioned the bell.
"I think we can take it from above, can you jump all the way there or should I give you a hand? not Theo though, no offense dude, but you look kinda heavy"
Soon flew above the church as she got closer to the bell, if Dan and Theo decided to come with her they could topple the bell into the building, crashing with style, it really wasn't refined enough to call it a strategy, but at least it was a surprise attack, whoever was leading the cult seemed to have some serious fighting force there, if he/she was an esper then definitely that would be her target!
"Alright, let the fun begin!"

"I apologize for any inconvenience it may cause. It is simply the most efficient form of travel." Theo patted Soon's head and looked out at the church. "I can climb. Or, if the lights are extinguished, I may teleport to the tower directly." He turned his four eyes to the church's lights setting up an impenetrable barrier to his travel abilities.
"If you're hanging out with people who could jump all the way up there from back here, I want to fight them." Dan grinned, sliding down the muddy slope. "I'll just have to climb." The instant he was in the light, the townsfolk began firing and the sea monks lurched to life. From the belltower, two townsfolk dropped. They were stripped to the waist, showing damp grey skin over inhuman muscles. Not inhuman in size but in structure, connecting to alien bones underneath. Their faces were barely human, noses flattened, eyes too far apart and dimly yellow. "Oh, fully transformed! I heard about you!" Dan popped his knuckles as one of the fishy folk jumped over him to face Soon.
"Yes, the ones who have returned to the sea. Strong enough to withstand the greatest pressures, faster than the swordfish! And with one other advantage!" The lights of the church suddenly cut out, leaving the landscape in near-total darkness. "We can see in the dark!" Both fish people lunged into action, attempting to land knifehand strikes of Dan and Soon's kidneys.

The fact that Dan implied jumping to the top of the church was no ordinary feat made her realize she was surrounded by monsters within the Musashi ranks, anyone using perfect warrior would easily be able to make it, though Soon decided not to opt for the nanomachine discharge, they had already experimented too much on her during her childhood, the last thing she needed was knowing there were nanomachines in her blood monitoring every step she gave, the best way to get stronger was focusing on her real abilities.
Soon flew away as the lights went out, her body was still visible through the night as her skin irradiated light like a dim lamp, she was the only thing visible in the middle of the night, making her an even easier target
"...fuck" Soon uttered as the Fishmen lounged at her and Dan, she closed her eyes and began to focus as the creatures attacked, she sidestepped all the blows despite the amazing speed of the creatures and lack of visibility, this was only possible thanks to her precognition, an ability too hard to use while attacking, but still perfectly useful for defense.
The esper then made a light ball which flew upwards, the ball of light began to shine like a strobe, revealing the creatures as the light blinked in and out, she began to fire at them going first after the ones closer to Dan, she might have been able to make a proper light, but she feared the backpack would run out of fuel, thus making her use some rather energy saving techniques, as soon as she began firing her futuresight would cancel just like that, she had to make the best of it now!
what else could Theo do? hopefully, he could take advantage of the darkness just as how she took advantage of the light.

Only one blow struck Dan before his pink aura burned into being. Everything around him became painted in a flat pink, the only source of light before Soon's flashing light blinked painfully overhead. Theo became clear, moving past the others to intercept the Sea Monks. Dan could only focus on his own fight as even with sight, the creature moved with overwhelming speed. He was already on the defensive, the relentless attack offering him no openings. He saw a flash of silver and blood began trickling into his eye.
Half blind, he was driven backwards until a spear of light cut through the night. A steaming scar was left, a hiss taken through the teeth, and that was enough. Dan was in range and his fists began landing. A few elbows to the face and a punch sent the fish sprawling in the mud. Instead of pressing his advantage, Dan spun and stomped on the back of the knee of the martial artist threatening Soon, dropping him. "Thanks for the help!" Even in the dim light, Dan's grin was obvious.

"Hey, you watch my back I'll watch yours!"- Soon replied as she gave Dan a thumbs up. Soon began to create small light spheres around the church that acted as lightbulbs all over the place, those weren't very bright, but they shone enough light to walk without tripping, the esper looked at the bell and an idea came to her mind almost immediately
"time to give the people inside a surprise!"
Soon flew all the way to the top as she attacked the roof with multiple lasers, once the structure was weak enough she aimed to cut the bell free, hoping it would make the roof collapse under its weight, if done properly, she could probably fly inside
"Get over here quickly Dan! we don't want Theo stealing all the fun!"
The Musashi had lost sight of the demon god, but she was sure he was strong enough to take the sea monks by himself, so she didn't worry too much.

Dan was ready to follow Soon, but both of the downed fighters rose. "Crap. Go right ahead, I'll be with you in a second!" He called after her as they lunged at him from both directions. They fought together better than they did apart, relentlessly striking from both sides until he flanked one when they slipped in the mud. "Homefield advantage and you're the ones slipping!?" Dan laughed before throwing a punch that sent him sprawling when his foot flew out from under him. "...that didn't happen." He growled. Meanwhile, Soon's lasers made short work of the bell's connection to the tower and over a ton of sculpted bronze came smashing down. The roof splintered like toothpicks, hardly impeding the bell's trip to the floor below. A shattered ringing echoed off the walls from a broken bell, sitting crooked, half-embedded in the floor. A briny smell wafted out and Soon would see the source when she looked inside. While normal on the outside, the church was alien inside. Every surface was damp, water pooled in the pews. Algae clung to walls that were once white, now encrusted with coral and barnacles. Something moved in the dim room below, footsteps in the puddled water echoing up. "Fool! Your entrance speaks of arrogance!" The bell very suddenly ripped itself out of the floor and flew straight back up at Soon, faster than it had fallen. "I see I must teach you your place, human." A deep, froggy voice croaked from the dimmest, dampest corner of the Church. When she had time to look, she'd see it. It was short and fat, a mottled white like moldy cheese. Short arms and legs ended in webbed paws with too many fingers and toes, looking like fans more than hands or feet. Its head stood up, cone-shaped like a Klansman's hood but clear like jelly. Its nose hung like an empty sock, flanked by perfectly circular eyes as black as the abyss this thing surely crawled from. Its mouth stretched too far for this head, lips seeming to hang off the edges. It sat still, waiting for Soon to make a move of her own.

The bell had barely fallen inside before it was sent packing right back where it came from, Soon looked inside only to find the bell headed towards her, she jumped out of the way as the bell flew past her. whoever managed to send that thing flying surely was strong.
she hopped inside the church with timing good enough to listen to the creature's rambling, she glanced at it somewhat disgusted, still, she made time to reply
"Did you just threw that thing at me? by the way, I prefer the term metahuman, though I would guess to a fish like you we all look the same. listen, you won't win this fight, the brother of your god is outside, we can do this the easy way and you can surrender, OR I can kick your ass"
Soon immediately materialized spheres of light around her, despite the odd looks of the monster, she knew this guy meant trouble, it was time for Soon to get serious, she joined her palms together as a dense form of light began to appear, a sword of light in the shape of a blade began taking form as she grabbed hold of it.
"False Sacred treasure: Lightsaber Takemikazuchi 建御雷"
The weapon was a light construct generated by Soon, it wasn't as pretty as the real deal, and not nearly as powerful, but still, it was a very potent blade.
"All Musashi know a thing or two about swords, I'd be the same of the clan if I couldn't use one, and right now I'm in the mood for some roasted frog legs"
Soon fired the light balls at the creature as cover, she wouldn't underestimate the monster in the least, when she got close enough she would then swing the blade at the creature looking to slice it in half, the photon blade would burn rather than cut, and also adjust in length on the fly, so it was quite a deceiving weapon.

"I don't care what you prefer." The creature hissed. It ignored the lasers as they pierced it through. "Sacred? Do not make me laugh. Only one here is holy." Soon wouldn't even meet resistance when she swung her blade. The blank black eyes of the priest of the briny depths just stared at her, mocking in their lack of response. Pale flesh faded into fog and dissipated. "You truly have underestimated the power of the mind you deal with here." There it was again, now sitting in the pews. There it went, faded to darkness again, sitting up on the roof, looking through the hole there. "Tell me, if your mind is truly a match for mine; how do you fight something that is not there?" The pews lifted off the ground, now all seated with dozens of miserable froggy men, all staring at her as their seats flew at Soon, some rolling like logs, some launched like javelins.

Soon absorbed the blade back into her body as it dematerialized, clearly, that wasn't gonna take her anywhere
"You gotta be kidding me, you think you are hot stuff with your illusions huh? why don't you face me like a man...frog, manfrog, or whatever you like to be called"
As the monster began to question Soon, she concentrated on her precognition, she had to act fast else the images wouldn't arrive in time.
"I'll give you an answer soon enough, monster"
looking into the future was something she did not like, as there were too many variables and alternate realities it sometimes made her puke. she had to focus on something in particular, and with an imminent attack on the line, her time was running short.
The esper looked into a particular outcome right away: what if she didn't try dodging?
depending on the answer she would get a hint as to what type of powers were at work, she clearly was at a disadvantage, so she had to gather all the information available, Telekinesis?, Illusions? both? she had to read into the situation.
should the seats be real and pummel her around, she would reply by blocking with light walls, the energy constructs wouldn't block per se, but rather incinerate anything that tried getting through.
should the seats not be real then she would be dealing with an illusory technique, either way, the monster surely packed quite the mental prowess.

The pews were indeed real, going up in flashes of light as they struck the shield. Soon was wreathed in burning ash for a brief moment, and it was in that blinding second that the cross at the end of the aisle ripped itself off the wall and threw itself at her back. The cross was wooden, just like the pews, but the figure of Jesus pinned to it was metal. The wood and barnacles that infested the Christ figure burned away, but Jesus made it through, maintaining his momentum and a half-melted expression of pain as he rushed to strike the esper.

Soon had had this story over and over, she would get shot and the barrier would turn the bullets into molten metal, always leaving her with nasty burns, the Christ figure, however, would leave her with a lot more than burns. she pushed the figure with TK, in an attempt to block it, but the figure managed to make contact with her skin for a couple of seconds, Soon dropped the barrier as the molten metal branded her skin
"Fuuuuck that hurt!!"
The creature had finally managed to piss her off, Soon drew all the energy of the backpack and tossed it aside, she was a living battery, so there was no reason to carry that thing around any further, she had to win on the reserves that the device provided!
empowered by the light of the machine, soon created a shining ball the size of a basketball, the light shone in the colors of the rainbow creating a beautiful effect.
"I don't care what power you are using, you won't be able to hide anymore after this!"
she gave the light ball a slight tap as it floated right in the middle of the church.
"This church is done and there will be nowhere left to hide! Taste the rainbow motherfucker!" she clapped her hands as the ball began to shoot extremely powerful lasers in all color spectrums, indiscriminately smiting everything it touched as the central part pulsed back and forth like a beating heart.
"FINAL RAVE!!"
